I plan to BF up to 1 year. But what happens when baby isn't only drinking breast milk? Around 6 months I plan to introduce solids. What happens to your milk supply once you introduce solids? How many times a day do you nurse once they eating solids as well? I know at least now, if I go more than 4-5 hrs without nursing it gets painful. Is engorement a problem once they start to eat other things?

Just wondering

Your body produces what baby eats/demands. So your supply will adjust appropriately!

I only get engorged now when I have been away from Landen for a few hour's and I am missing him. Other then that every now and then but not nearly as painful as it is for you now. My supply is pretty good still but its not like it used to be.

I don't get super engorged unless he does something crazy like going from waking every couple hours at night to STTN.
My supply is still pretty good b/c I think he isn't really eating as much solids as a lot of babies his age.
But yeah your supply will adust to what the baby is taking so as baby gets older and eats more solids your supply will slowly go down. I just kind of wing it as far as when he nurses. Typically I nurse before and after each nap (he naps twice), waking up in morning and before bed (and night wakings ) but some of them he's not drinking a lot.

I do get engorged if she skips a nursing session though(something that never happened with Seamus who nursed till 12.5mo but he was on whole milk by 11mo), and i still produce a good amount (enough to pump 3-5oz)

Engorgement isn't really an issue past a couple of months. Unless like Shannon said and you go super long in between. Even then, it is usually nothing like early engorgement. But having said that, the other day he went 12 hours of straight sleep and OMG that was awful! I imagine once he is taking in even less milk in a few months that won't really happen.

I plan to BF then offer solids 20 min later since BF should be the primary food till 1 yr. So think of solids as dessert! And ditto the engorgement issue---I rarely have it now.

Thinking about having less nursing sessions makes me sad. I think I'm going to be jealous of solids.

Oliver seemed to nurse just as much when solids started. Maybe because he wasn't a huge eater? My breasts never got engorged because of him eating solids. Your body will adjust to eat. Plus since you start solids kind of slow it all works out. Every baby is so different. She might still nurse the same.

You might not get jealous if Lily is anything like Oliver! Oliver comfort nurses so much more than he ever did as a baby. He doesn't nurse as much to eat though..

She could be like Kieran and not care as much about food as the boobie, she still nurses for a good 10min (sometimes longer) 6-8ish times a day and up to 2 times a night and she will be 11mo on Monday (granted she didn't start solids till 9mo but still )

I plan to always nurse first, like Angela said. So your still getting the same amount of nursing sessions. And believe my engorgement past a couple months is nothing, but that first engorgement HOLY HURT!!

I used to offer solids about an hour after nursing, and the only thing that happened is instead of E eating every 3 hours, she would go every 4 nursing. I also didn't start until she was 6 months. Your supply will adjust, especially by 6 months.
