I guess we sort of did, we "tried pureeds at 6.5mo but she wouldn't open her mouth for them so gave up(she wanted to eat cause she'd always try to steal our food when we ate) and didn't start again till 9mo when she really wanted food, we did:
banana pieces, corn, peas, green beans, canned(or soft steamed carrots) cut into 4th's, avocado pieces, yogurt, toast, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti (shells the small ones which are easy for finger foods and easy to eat), small cubed ham and turkey (started w/ lunchable jr's and then found some cubed meat, dime sized and smaller), chicken pieces, mashed potatoes, cheese, and more recently(last night ) strawberry pieces

We did it and still do on occasion, though I also ended up adding chunky purees he still has to chew. We have done broccoli, turkey (a really good one, flakes easily and is easy for them to digest), soft peas, banana & steamed apple. We also did sweet potato sticks and cucumber but he did not like those very much, although I think he would go for the sweet potato now (he likes it mashed). He also likes to feed himself pasta. It is cute to have him hold and chomp on a banana, and I keep meaning to try cheese. I keep meaning to try toast which they say is a good one. Asparagus is also supposed to be a good one for them to hold and gnaw on, as are chicken legs.

I did and its going great. I held off food til almost 11 months. She first had apple and. Then banana. She's had spaghetti and tomatoes. Loved them both. Peas last night. She seemed to enjoy them but spit the pe skin out. LOL. I'm steaming the veggies in my new steamer. For breakfast she loves Cheerios and I've fed her some organic baby yogurt. So far it is going perfect.
Oh want to add since starting foods she wants to nurse more. Like foods make her hungrier. Don't plan to stop nursing til she's done or maybe 24 Mons. We'll see how it goes then.

Michelle what part of the turkey did you do? The breast?
We are still having to do purees b/c he doesn't want to or can't pick up anything but cheerios, puffs, pieces of bread. He doesn't pick up any of the soft cooked veggies or fruits, he just kind of smashes them around with his fingers. I'm a little worried about it, like how am I going to get him to eat more finger foods when he's not interested at all?

We did roasted turkey breast. Turkey thigh or chicken thigh is also good.
I wouldn't worry that he isn't interested in picking up food. Jack was very much into it at 6 months, but is not really anymore after giving him purees and with him being older. He knows there are easier ways to get his food, lol. I think if you offer him the finger food at the first part of every meal, he will get more into it. I am going to try that too.

That's what I tried today for lunch. I set out an array of peas, rice, pear chunks, slices of avocado and a couple cheerios. He ate the cheerios, smushed the other stuff around a bit, picked a few things up but didn't put them in his mouth, and then got pissed off at me and started crying. I then tried to feed him pureed carrots and chicken (thighs that I cooked, pureed and froze) and he ate less than an ounce. And I know he was hungry. It had been 3.5 hrs since he had anything.
30 minutes later he came up to me whining and pulling up on me b/c he wanted to nurse.

I'm doing purees with Nora just like I did with Harrison but I can tell she wants more foods cause she fusses over the pureed crap and reaches for Harrison and our foods....I give her stuff in that mess baby food eater thing and she loves that - cantelope and banana are her favorite.....I'm afraid to do too much more because I'm afraid of choking too - she can't even do puffs yet without choking....but I can tell she wants food bad....she just got two teeth so she's getting better with the whole chomping thing...soon she'll be able to chomp on it all without choking!

Starting true solids was terrifying. lol. I would give him cheerios but I would soak them in water for like 30 seconds before I gave them to him. lol. I know I was being paranoid. He's only mildly choked a few times (not actual choking, more like it just went down wrong) but I'm still a worry wort. He has always done well with real food and really enjoys eating like a big boy. He prefers to be given a big piece of whatever (chicken, broccoli, cheese) and take bites. He doesn't like it if I cut it up for him.

I guess so. Dh thinks I am expecting too much out of him and I should just give him Cheerios and that he'll eat more when he's ready. I just hope this isn't a sign that he's going to be super picky.
Maybe he's being difficult b/c his top teeth are coming in, I can blame it on that right?

I started out Landen with baby smoosh. But now that he is on solids he just eats whatever I eat I just leave out the salt. Just be careful with beef (pot roast, steak cut up) he had a hard time with that. He really LOVE'S rice and mash potatoes he likes to dip his meat into it before he eats it lol!!!

with meats your suppose to give pieces that are very large so they just can pick them up and chew on it/get the flavor. If he physically can't bite a piece of it off until he has enough chew power to chew it......natures little protection (per the baby led stuff LOL ) Thanks for the feedback!

I just offered anything semi mashed up on my plate, if it was a veggie I sorta chewed it up myself first then let them have it (or mash it with a fork lol) Noodles were always a hit, mashed taters, nothing too seasoned *although my daughter LOVES hot salsa and garlic!!!* If they were interested, I fed them! I never waited the recommended 3 days between offering things....bad mother I am, I know.....Pretty much if they wanted it, I gave it to them.
