Okay so when we are home the door is usually always locked. The door itself doesn't latch very well and it's really easy to open (aka Curtis...).
So anyways. The boys were playing in that area. So I made sure the door was locked and the chain thing was in place as well. James and I were home in the living room (which is just steps away from the door but not totally in view, if that makes sense, it's kinda around a corner). All of a sudden I hear giggling like CRAZY! Curtis comes running towards us laughing and saying "Cheeda Cheeda hahahaha" (which means Dustin). James makes a comment about how he thinks Dustin's outside... I told him no way cause the door is locked.
So I go down the hall way and there is a stool in front of the door, but it's still locked and the chain is in place. But I can't find Dustin any where and Curtis is still laughing like crazy. So I whip open the door as far as I can cause the chain is in place and sure enough Dustin's outside about to head down the stairs!! (Our unit is on the second floor...). I throw the stool out of the way and un chain the door and run to him just in time.
Geeze!! Scary stuff.

Ya Curtis got the door unlocked and opened and Dustin squeezed through how far the chain would let it open! Freaky hey?!? Then Curtis closed the door and locked it again.
So glad he's okay

Oh my gosh! I would have had a heart attack. It's ok, worse has happened to Rylie in Andy's care She actually DID fall down the stairs (2 or 3 weeks ago) and I about bawled my eyes out. The gate at the top of the stairs was locked and I was downstairs talking with my mom and dad (before we moved). Andy wasn't paying enough attention and Taylor flew into the gate and Rylie just so happened to be leaning on it and I heard tumbling down the stairs and it was my baby!!! She's been fine though, nothing is wrong with her, praise God. I'm so glad we live on the 1st floor now, scary stuff!!

Definitely not a bad mommy moment, but a scary mommy moment indeed!

Oh my world and ditto Chelle!
I think I would have passed out. I'm so glad you got to him before anything happened. It really sends home the point that you literally can't let your kids out site even for a second.

Haha Steph, I hope you can accept my apology. I just reread what I wrote and realized that I said

like you're not his mama and like thats something that you need to do. I wouldve probably taken that statement and thought to myself "What! Does this chick not think that I know when and how to discipline my child?". I just thought about that being Mikayla and Kalani and my mind just went off in a tangent on what I'd do. Please forgive me

That would have scared me big time. It's crazy what these toddlers can do. I never knew how smart a 1 years could be and know until now. Glad everything turned out okay in the end.
