Ok so I was 6 points over the recommended % for the glucose test. Which I dunno how I was because I tested this morning (after being asked yesterday to go on a high protein, low sugar/carb diet) and my #'s were 48. HOW is that GD??? The morning reading should be your highest reading of the day. I called my dad (he has type 2 or 1 I forget...but he gave me a meter and set me up with a blood tester) And hes like there is no way, if your a 48 your blood sugar is TOO LOW and you should have already blacked out and been unresponsive. o_O so with that in mind, Im thinking what Ive always thought before, Im hypoglycemic. Which the #'s CAN go above what I need them to, especially if I have fasted before hand (I fasted for 12 hours) And for some reason my body hated me and told the test results that I had it. When in all reality, Im probably low blood sugar, which would be half the reason why I cant walk around a store without feeling like Im going to pass out (alllll the puzzle pieces are coming together!!) Which could also be why I can drink soda and coffee and not get a buzz from it!! because its HELPING my blood sugars. Geeze why does this have to be so complicated LOL!!
Just for kicks, my sugar levels last night at about 10 (2 hours after I ate a low carb meal) were at 67.....

I have no idea how that all works but I would ask to be retested and discuss the numbers you're getting on your dads meter with your MW. I would also double check that your dad has his meter coded right. Your dizziness could very well be due more to BP issues than blood sugar. I get very dizzy/faint and it's because I have low blood pressure naturally plus it's lower from running too. My glucola tests have always come back completely normal. I hope they figure it out soon!

Wow That is low, very low. Mine with Seamus after fasting for an hour(all I had to do then drink the nasty drink) were like 140, 10 points over the cut off (my office cuts it off at 130) and my 3hrs were alot higher. With Kieran I only had very little to eat that day then fasted for around 2hrs and drank the drink and my sugars came back at 150, at that I refused the 3hr since i knew I had GD again by that reading.
I've however never herd of your morning numbers being the highest, they are usually the lowest numbers of the day. Morning should be 70–130 and after you eat (after bkfast, lunch, dinner, etc) should be 180 and under. (this is normal Diabetes numbers, GD is normally required lower, fasting {aka waking up} for my office was between 85-110, and 1hr after eating couldn't be higher then 140)

I agree get your dad's meter tested. But also dizzyness isn't just with BP issues, if your blood sugar drops too low you can get dizzy and black out. Lots of diabetes will carry mints or candy bars on them just in case, I had to, mine dropped to the 70's and 60's once and I couldn't move cause if I did it would spin so bad I'd want to throw up.

Thank you justine! I dont know how old this meter is, but I figured since he gets his diabetic stuff covered he can just get a perscription for stuff for free LOL he said it worked for him but got a new meter cuz he had lost this one and well obviously that wasnt ok LOL But Ill talk to him about getting it tested.
Im just so confused. I did a test, ate some fruity pebbles this am for breakfast. a half our later I was at 178 and a half hour after that (1 hour post breakfast) was 98 and I was all shaky and light headed, just sitting on my stairs wiping the wall off!! So I know somethings going on....but then again I need to keep testing to regulate what my numbers should be....this is only day one......

Test 1-2hrs after eating and use those numbers, those will be the most accurate. You can get a One Touch Ultra for $20 from Walmart but I think the strips are spendy 9like $50 for 100 strips). I used the Freestyle tester(newest one)
Try the GD diet for a couple days and see how your sugars are.Did she tell you the carb allowance you could have with the diet? (some are different then others)
Did you have GD with the other two? Generally once you have it you always do with pregnancy(not always but generally)

No this is the first time I was diagnosed with it. I was a point away with my son, and with Morgan I was 10points under the cut off. This one I was 6 points over.
The meter Im using is a precision Xtra. My dad gets the testing tabs for free through Kaiser since he has diabetes. Can I use these same test strips on a different meter? I doubt the meter is bad...
at 12pm, I ate 2 corn dogs with 2 tspns mayo to dip and a glass of milk. So Ill test at 1pm and see where Im at. I know this probably wasnt a great choice, but I had nothing else in the house (Im not prepared for a GD diet lol but were going shopping today to fix that) At least it will give me a sence of where Im at before I go on the diet? My only difference is I havent had any soda today which I usually have with lunch and dinner. My midwife told me black tea instead of soda if I need that sweet/caffeine fix. She didnt tell me how much I need to eat, just to jack up my protein intake and watch out for fruits as well.

I still drank soda just cut back on how much(like I'm bad usually drink 6+ cans a day but i cut back to 2, 3 at most and was always fine).
My carb allowances were(aw crap, I think, my mind is kinda mush right now)
30 breakfast, 15 snack, 60 lunch, 15 snack, 60 dinner, 15 snack. You dont want to eat alot of carbs for your first meal(like cereal is bad) because it will throw off the rest of the day, my morning numbers were always high with Seamus and I ended on insulin because of it. And eat alot of protein. The protein will help "eat", so to speak, the carbs that you do intake.

ok well I cheated and tested at 12:50 cuz my friend brought me a hamburger LOL!! My levels were 91. So not bad at all! Im wondering if I just cut back on the normal sugar I ingest (yes I confess Im a 3-5 glass of pepsi drinker a day) So just cut back to 1-2 small glasses and more water and milk, I should be fine. Also switching to splenda will help too

ya that will help and eating some more protein(meats, peanuts, etc) I didn't change what I at too much just cut back on the sugary and added more proteins and other then the one shot of insulin before breakfast when pregnant w/ Seamus (well 3weeks before he was born my night numbers went haywire but didn't add any more insulin) and my 1 pill in the morning(I think it was lol) with Kieran I was good

Hello.. I had GD with both of my kids..
My advice to you is to ask for a A1C test.. The A1C test will give you an average blood sugar for the past 2-3 months.. Depending on where you go, it's just a simple finger poke or a blood draw.. Doing the A1C will give you some piece of mind as well too.. With my second pregnancy, I refused the GTT test. I knew the GD was coming and I started to manage it the day I found out I was pregnant and I was one of the few women who have sugar problems in the first trimester.. Luckily I was educated enough to know what to do..
A1C - American Diabetes Association
The meter you have can be off.. Do you have the Glucose control solution to make sure the meter is reading right?
MediSense Glucose Control Solution - 3 ml Mid - Diabetic Testing Supplies - Discount Diabetic Supplies
My dad is a type 2 diabetic and he had a Presision reader and it was giving him wrong numbers.. He noticed this when I have him an extra meter I had.. I liked the One Touch Ultra.. I was vary lucky that all my testing supplies were free though my insurance.. What's nice about the one touch is that it doesn't hurt at all.. The down side, if you have to buy strips, it's about $100 a box..
I never followed the diet with my son.. I just learned what I could eat and what I couldn't.. I did have problems with being hypoglycemic.. My sugars were always around 60 and 90.. Believe it or not, I could eat a large donut and one hour later my sugars would be 75.. lol But if I ate white rice, it would be in the 160's.. crazy huh? Like Justine said, eat protein, whole grains, veggies..
I did have problems with feeling dizzy when I was out and about during the summer time.. Just make sure you have some protein on hand.. Like those health bars.. If you just eat plan sugar, like candy.. It will only solve the problem for a short while and then you'll crash again.. If you eat a protein snack with some carbs, it will help raise your blood sugars and keep it steady for a longer period..
If you do have GD, do lots of research and learn as much as you can.. Know what you can and can not have.. When I was induced with my son, I told the nurse I was eating and I told her that I was not going to need insulin, so don't bother ordering it.. lol She laughed at me and I said, I'm being serious.. Well, I ate 2 meals and and 2 snacks and my blood sugars stayed at right at 75 throughout my induction..
Edit:
I just wanted to add this as well. I took Fish oil when I was pregnant was well.. I noticed that my numbers dropped 10 points when I started Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omegas (recommended by someone on the WTTC Graduates).. This fish oil is wonderful.. When my son was born, he had a APGAR score of 9.9.. 10 is the highest, but is rarely given.. The down side to this fish oil, it's a little pricey..

huh.... i would talk to your doc again, and definatley check out the meter. I've hardly ever met someone who wasn't symptomatic at 48... i'm stumped. it's worth asking and not just assuming that the doc is wrong. I just don't understand how you can get a reading of 48 then a reading of 178. Your body really should be able to keep your sugar under 178 even after eating sugary cereal. I would keep a log and write every thing down. For my diabetic patients i recomend testing before breakfast, before lunch, before dinner, then before bed. That will give you a better idea of how your body processes your meals. If you are under 100 each time, you're probably ok. But again, i would try to talk again with your doc. (or get a different meter... btw most meters need to be calibrated montly... i wonder if this one has been)

wow i really hope you can get this sorted out and get to feeling better soon hun.
the pp had so much great advice, what a nice bunch of ppl we have here!
i just wanted to mention that you can get fish oils from target for a pretty good price, the pills are big though. make sure that you don't get a supplement that has omega-6 in it though, only get omega-3 (EPA & DHA) since the avg american diet has way too much omega-6 in it. omega-3's are super healthy for u! i'm starting to take mine tonight! my sis reccomended taking them at night before bed so ur not burping fish smell all day. a side note, non pregnancy related, my sis was on prednisone and her skin was terrible, shes been doing the fish oil for a while now and her skin is SO beautiful! added bonus
i realy hope this blood sugars thing gets solved for u soon - KUP!

Well for the most part, I can keep it anywhere from 80-110 during the day. The coke zero (dont get started, it helping better than regular soda) isnt affecting me as bad as I thought it would. the only thing really thats been throwing my sugars off is pizza. So I try to stay away from heavy carbs like that. I munch on nuts throughout the day now, so that in itself has bee helping. I stopped testing alot throughout the day, because #1 Im tired of my arm looking like a drug addict and #2, Im kinda only testing in the morning, afternoon and evening. 98% of the time, my levels are ok. I havent crashed since the very first day, after eating the fruity pebbles. Ill give my midwife a call at the end of the week to go over my levels and diet and see what she thinks. There is a big chance that if I took the actual glucose drink test, I would pass but OMG I feel like CRAP the rest of the day, and the diet is so much easier!! I havent asked my dad about the meter being wrong, Ill bring that up with him tomorrow.
