I had my OB appointment today and my doctors are NOT happy with my weight gain. I really wanted to do better this time than I did with Gem. I gained about 40 pounds with her. According to my home scale I was 143 when I started this pregnancy. According to my OB's scale today I am 161 lbs!!!! And I'm not even half baked!!! 18 pounds in 18 weeks is rediculous and I can't figure out WHY I have gained it!

I was still running up until the blizzard a couple weeks ago. When we didn't have power I couldn't run (no treadmill and 4' of snow outside) then I got overwhelmed with school and just haven't run again. So that was probably a factor in my weight gain. BUT...

My eating habits are NOT bad! I had banana and orange juice for breakfast. I eat my PB&J sandwiches (usually for lunch 2-3 times a week) on whole wheat bread. I drink mostly 2% milk, low acid orange juice and water. I allow myself Sprite or root beer with dinner sometimes. I almost NEVER have seconds with dinner (or any meal for that matter) and I actually almost never finish my plate (and we use smaller plates to control portion size - like 8" diameter vs. 12" diameter). Our dinners are usually healthy. Tonight we're having pot roast, potatoes, carrots and green beans. My late night snack last night was a scoop of ice cream with strawberries cut up on it. I just don't understand where I am getting enough calories to put on a pound a week or more! They say you need 500 more calories per day while pregnant but maybe I don't? Maybe I need to cut more calories? HELP!

Don't feel too bad though - I was in awesome shape when I got preggers and I am pretty sure I had gained 20lbs by 5 months. Probably more, actually. I also notice the more in shape ladies tend to gain more earlier.

You look great. Try not to sweat it too much. As long as you aren't eating for two, which you aren't, then your body is going to gain whatever it needs no matter what you do.

I was also an impressive weight gainer. I went from 120 to 170. A whopping 50 lb gain and I am pretty sure I would have been at 55-60 if I had gone to term. On the bright side, I lost 40 of them by 3 mo PP without doing a single thing. No diet or forced exercise. Of course, I still have 7 to lose now, but I might have still had that if I had gained less.

My scale is 4lbs lighter than the Obs scale. I weighed 155 at the start of mine at home but at the doc office, I was 159. My doc scale said like 176 on Friday, mine says 172.

Your docs scale might be off a few lbs like mine is

I was going to suggest maybe your drs scales are out a bit? Ive seen your pics and unless your storing in like your teeth then i dont see how you could have put 18lb on.
Could you maybe ask about weighing on a diffrent paire of scales just for a compare?

Thanks ladies! One of the ladies in my DDC pointed out the difference between my scale and the OB's (like you Chel, it's about 4 pounds). I went and weighed myself on my home scale and it says 157 and that's with clothes on! I'm pretty sure that I weighed 143 naked and without having eaten or drank anything. So if I subtract 2-3 pounds to account for that I probably actually weigh 155 first thing in the AM before breakfast without all the clothes! That makes me feel much better! I'm still going to put a stricter eye on what I eat because I think I am forgetting snacks that I pick up throughout the day but I feel like I can worry less now. And Gem and I are going to take the dogs for a nice long walk after lunch so that should help too! Thanks again for all the kind words! I am really, really paranoid about getting huge this time!

I dont think they calibrate DRs scales often enough. So its extremely possible that its waaaaay off. Dont sweat it, you are healhty and sometimes our bodies are just going to gain what it wants to no matter what you do. Don't let it control your pregnancy or you will not enjoy it (I dwell too much on the scale too).

I think you look awesome! You definitely don't look like you've already gained 18lbs, I can promise you that. I have no real advice because it sounds like you're eating fine to me

I don't think you gained enough weight to worry about it. I was about the same with my weight gain at this stage in your pregnancy. I gained about 45-50 total. It will come off with BF. Your eating healthy and running when you can. That is great!

Dude, I only got to 15 weeks pregnant, and yet put on 5kg's! I've only just lost it all again.

And ditto to all the ladies above who say you look great and shouldn't be worried. If you are eating healthy and exercising, then that is fine

You sure don't look like you've gained that much at all! You are still so tiny (all over)! I was getting all paranoid about my weight gain too, but DH just constantly reminds me "honey, you are pregnant, you are SUPPOSED to be gaining this weight." I know, it doesn't help me much either. BUT it is great for baby!

Don't worry about it hon. You look great and are eating way better than I am. I feel like the only way for me to slow down my weight gain would be to skip meals.

Ditto to Angela. Whatever weight you're gaining is sure being hidden or utilized really well.

How odd it must be alllll belly! Another suggestion though, my sister was really big (belly wise not body) and her placenta ended up being HUUUGE so maybe thats where some if the weight is going? which is why your popping out so much now?
