A girl I went to highschool with is pregnant and due like any day now. She posted on FB that she went to the doctor today and the baby is head down and she is one centimeter dilated but her cervix is still posterior and firm. Apparently the OB had given her an 'induce by' date but asked her if she would mind moving it back until her cervix is more favorable (I want THAT OB!). Anyway, from her post she told the OB heck no, she's not waiting. It's her baby and her body and she should be able to pick when her baby is born. She even said, "They can give me servadil (spelling?) to soften my cervix."
Obviously she did no research (since she can't even spell cervadil). And I guess her OB was too much of a wuss to just tell her that the risk of C-section, maternal or fetal death and complications will rise significantly if the conditions aren't favorable for induction. I really hope she and her baby will be okay but I want to smack her so bad! I didn't say anything on FB but I wanted to SO bad!

I hope she enjoys her c/s recovery! Sheesh.. what is wrong with people. It's not natural to pick the birth date! Let the baby come when body and baby is ready. I wonder what childbirth will be like 20-30 years from now.

I hope she does well
but not everyone has complications from inductions like that
I was 1cm and somewhere between 50-60% effaced when I was induced with Seamus and had the stuff placed(but mine wasn't called cervadil) and he wasn't a c-section. Seamus Patrick Allen - Justmommies Forums
I also didn't pick the date, My Bp was continuing to climb and my insulin wasn't cutting it anymore, and the last u/s before the induction showed him at basically 9lbs (though he wasnt' close). And Yes I had a c-section, and I know most think I'm horrid and a bad nasty person for having one with Kieran because we didn't like the 50/50 chance of trying the version especially when the ob that delivered Seamus said he wouldn't' chance the version because he couldn't feel her externally at all, and I'm glad we went with the c/s with her being footling breech from everything I've read footling breech is harder to do and carries more risks to do versions.
I understand being upset with her but not all turn out horridly....

Its one thing to have an induction for a reason, but to have it for no reason is taking an un needed risk of a failed induction.
I don't understand woman that want to "plan" the date of birth like that. Honestly I just shake my head and say good luck trying to raise an unpredictable child. If you can't even let it make it's own choice to come when it's HEALTHY and ready.... just wait till the little one doesn't want to sleep at night no matter how exhausted you are, or will NOT pee for like an hour while getting ready for bed....... (Those may or may not come from personal experience hahahaha).

Oh I feel ya there... I have a few associates like that its very hard not to say something....
I do just want to add that chances are she may do just fine... I was induced 9 days past my due date and I was zero dilated hard firm the lot. My doctor pushed me into induction well not MY doctor but the doctor who took over the week I was due as my doctor was away... Anyway I did manage to give birth naturally after 36ish hours. It was hell though and I'd much prefer go a month over (if everything with baby and placenta etc are well of course) then go through that again!

Justine you dont have to justify your reasons for having a c-section. You did what you felt was the best decision at the time and you're not a bad person for having done so!

Im glad I have a place like this to learn things from! I remember them wanted to use Cervidil on me and wanting to Induce me but I wanted to go as Natural as possible! I really wanted to not get an EPi but that darn back labor was killer!!! Im hoping to try again this time...It cracks me up when people pick their DD! I mean, really?

There are still a lot of persons out there who are fairly clueless. I think a lot of know so much because of JM or because we just love to get all the information possible.
I know that had it not been for JM, I would have most likely did some crazy things as well. I for sure don't think I would have breastfed after 3 months, don't think I would have even considered an un-medicated birth and a lot of other things.
Hopefully all goes well for her.

I know it can go well, but her chances for a csection have just gone up. I am not against inductions at all. I don't agree with those that induce before their due date because of a baby who may or may not be too big, or just out of convenience and not being able to wait. I'll be honest, I chose an induction with two pregnancies, and ended up going into labor on my own. I got lucky, but once I got to my due date, I started getting scared to death of something happening to the baby and I feel like as soon as they can safely be born I am ready. But I was educated on the risks, and the higher chance of csection. I know some women don't even realize they are taking that chance, and inductions don't always go as planned, and can make labor and delivery soo much more difficult than it already is!

Justine, you had BP issues and other MEDICAL reasons for choosing an induction. You didn't do it for convenience! That is what gets to me. I know it sucks to be big and overdue and feeling like you are going to be pregnant forever but if your baby and your body are NOT ready then they just aren't ready! What kind of birth you choose to have is the first big choice you make as a parent and I just can't help but think she's looking at what's best for her 'schedule' and not what's best for the baby. Not a good parent IMHO. I feel sorry for her and scared for her baby. She was never a 'good' girl in highschool and I get the feeling she's still not on the right path now and this is just one more sign of her never ending poor decision making!

As much as I hate people "evicting" babies - I personally didn't even try anything to "encourage" Nolan to come out, not even when I went overdue.....I personally think everyone is entitled to the birth they want. So if she wants to do that, I just hope there aren't horrible complications for her.
Some people get to the end and they are all "OMG GET THIS BABY OUT ALREADY".....I personally don't understand what another 2 weeks are when you've already been pregnant forever in the grand scheme of things.
