We are officially, 100% done with the nipple shield. I am so proud of Nolan and how he just basically stopped using it the other day...I've kept it around "just in case"....but we haven't needed it at all!! Now our problem is him latching himself before I am ready and trying to go to town on a tiny bit of my nipple..YEOWTCH....he is like a little baracuda!! As soon as he sees my nipple he starts breathing all heavy and headbutting me and waving his head back and forth with his mouth wide open, hahaha. That + nipple shield always = us being covered in milk or it getting knocked off and then him screaming because OMGTHENIPPLETHENIPPLEINEEDIT.

It's kind of funny how I got rid of it.....he was fussing for noms and I picked up the nipple shield to put it on and noticed a piece of fuzz on it, so I was trying to get the fuzz off and he was going insane because he had to wait .5 seconds, so I just decided to try and latch him without it while I tried to get the fuzz off...and then 20 minutes later he was done and ready for the other side. I thought it was going to be a LONG, PAINFUL process. Now the only painful part is the initial latch and when he is done..he tries to pull off with my nipple still in his mouth because with the rubber shield he could just slide his head back and it would slip off. Now it just stretches my nipple out 5 feet.

So yay for Nolan and my nips!!!

Congrats!

I've been nursing for 11mo 2.5weeks with the nipple shield (and nursed for 12.5mo with one), I understand how joyful it would be/is to be rid of it. (sadly my kids could never latch w/o)

Hehe, DH started calling it "mommy noms" and it has stuck. Plus it sounds so funny and I feel like that is really what he is wanting "OMG NOMS!!!".

THAT is dedication to nursing!!!!! I was going insane with it just for the short time I had it...and after we got through engorgement, there was no reason for him to need it because my nipples were just fine for latching....he was just LAZY and it was easier to get the noms out of the shield!! You are awesome!!!

That's GREAT news! It takes a few weeks, but your nipples will get used to things, and then it gets soo much easier.

YAY!! That's awesome!! I actually kinda miss those barracuda nursing days, even though when I was in them (and crazy with hormones and engorgement) I didn't think I would EVER miss them!

Oh believe me I hate it too, but if it means they nurse I'll do it. I've spent countless nights crying trying to get them off(when baby babies) and its never worked, even when Kieran was 5 days old and we had to spend 3hrs with the LC we tried and couldn't get her to go w/o it. My areolas are way too large and my nipples are very small and generally flat/inverted(TMI ) and even when sucking they hardly come out. I'm really hoping the next baby may be able to do w/o it but I'm not too overly hopeful cause even the LC said I'd probably always need one because of shape. And I can't lay down and nurse (size issue too) cause of having to hold it in place and all...ya sucks but I want them to have boobie milk

But I just reread how Nolan got off the shield and I about the fuzz. Thats great he did it so well and fast, I know some have a very hard time and weeks to get it gone. grats again!
