My 4 year old niece Lauren is having horrible poop issues. She will hold it for days and refuse to go until it gets to the point where she is curled over on the floor in pain. And its not that her poop is too hard at all, its like she is scared to let it out. She wont let anyone near her to comfort her or anything. My sister has tried giving her fiber and it worked for awhile but not so much anymore. Its become almost a daily thing now and my sister is going crazy seeing her little girl do this to her self . Has this happened to any of you... or any ideas to get her to poop??

Apparently my oldest sister went through this when she was little and they gave her enemas or mixed prune juice with a different type of juice so she didn't know. My parents said my oldest sister because afraid of the poo and went through that for about a year. They did a lot of telling her "poo won't hurt you, poo is good" ect. Poor baby

Oh no, poor Lauren.

I'm really not sure what to suggest since it does not seem like she's really constipated. I guess giving her more fruit and adding prune juice to other drinks as suggested before may work.

Poor little girl. I have no advice. Have heard that some kids are afraid to poo because it feels like a piece of them is falling out. Does your sis have that book, 'Everyone Poops' to read to her? Not sure if it would help, but it couldn't hurt.

Curtis used to do the exact same thing, and still does to a certain extent. Potty training did help a bit. But he ALWAYS ALWAYS holds it as long as he can and then fights it.

I have no advice. But I have found that foods do help. I would suggest talking about poop alot. I know that sounds really weird but that's what seemed to help Curtis to an extent. Talking about how mommy poops and daddy poops etc etc.

I feel horrible knowing another little one is going through the same thing as Curtis. He would literally scream all night long in and fight it. It is/was HORRIBLE.

since she isn't constipated and its more of a fear issue I would stay on the same foods.

Now this is going to sound really weird but have her poop infront of her daughter. Show her is normal and not scary. Also that everyone poops book is great. She sounds like she is one of the kids that think that part of them is falling out!...which is a very scary thought. So more "what comes in need to come out" talks and just more talks about poo in general.......everything that eats must poop. A good trip to the zoo should help that point out!

My cousin had this problem but his was mental abuse from his dad, so he resulted in not going potty. He would have to drink straight mineral oil to make him poop. I hope this goes away for her soon!!! Its not fun to deal with
