So its been a few days since my breastfeeding freakout thread...and I wanted to share how great things are going now.
First, let me tell you about my nipples!!! We have gotten through the growth spurt and my nipples are doing MUCH better. We have almost no soreness when nursing and they are no longer cracked.

I was always told "breastfeeding isn't supposed to hurt"...but now that I've been nursing for a month and have seen what it does to your nipples...how can it NOT hurt??? I mean those babies get STRETCHED out while being sucked on! Especially if you have "shorter" nipples to being with, they have to stretch out really far!!!! So that "it isn't supposed to hurt" bs is just that...bs.....
His latch is MUCH better - now he doesn't slide off to just the nipple until he is "done" eating and just wants to comfort nurse. So I will relatch him a few times and if he keeps doing it I'll take him off and snuggle him. It is working so far and I hope in the future he adjusts to the milk flow to eventually comfort nurse without hurting me, haha.
Now that there is less soreness, we aren't getting that initial latch pain as much and I've discovered that my letdown is EXCRUCIATING. So that is part of the reason it was so painful for me....I think for some people the letdown tingles...for me it is toe curling. I hope that diminishes some!!
We had his 1 month pedi appointment this morning....and he gained TWO POUNDS in two weeks...and grew 1.5 inches. So I'm pretty confident in our nursing now, haha. I also don't seem to make milk...I must make cream. I even nursed him after he got a shot (wahhhhhhh) in the office, no boppy pillow or anything and he latched on great and nursed away.
I can't thank you guys enough for all the advice and hugs. I can't wait to return the favor to someone else who is struggling...not that I would wish how inadequate I was feeling on ANYONE....but I'm so glad I now know that it is okay to not be perfect at something that is supposed to come "natural".
