I don't want to start a debate or anything but I liked this clip from 'The Business of Being Born' on the pitocin/meds/epidural/c-section relationship. I hope you don't mind me sharing it here.

This is the reason for my VBA2C attempt!!! This video actually brought me to the realization that my first c-section was actually un-necessary!!! And that pitocin is what cause my first c-section!

I LOVED that documentary! If we did not live in an apartment with thin walls, we would have done home birth.

I'm glad you guys didn't mind me posting this! I know alot of our girls had interventions for various reasons and in the end we all had healthy babies so it really doesn't matter. I just wish this info had been available to me when I was pregnant with Gem! It makes me even more determined to have NO interventions, period!

that was a good documentary! definitely gave me some more ammo to go at dh with when i end up talking to him about my future labour. my reason for not wanting an epi is mainly that i do not want ANYTHING jabbed into my spine. i had so much neck spinal pain in my life that i dont wanna chance anything happening liek that again, it is SO debilitating, i swear sometimes i just wanted to crawl in a hole and die. id rather have 72 hrs of labour than over a year of back/neck pain.

I totally thought of Chelle when I read this post. Haven't watched the video, will do so later
I think it's great to be educated on all subjects when it comes to birth.

I thought it might help Chelle stay patient too but I didn't want to direct it at her. I know she's hanging tight for right now. I just hope Lani decides to evict herself soon for Chelle's sanity's sake!
I'm educated now but it's time to start working on Shane! I'm planning to call the midwives and try to get into them again tomorrow. Then I'm going to start talking to Shane about NCB and possibly homebirth. We'll see how that goes over.

I'm very iffy about watching this. I already feel "attacked" and like the most horrible person for having a successful induction and then later a c-section for various reasons. Someone on my facebook posted the other day about this movie and I read about it but it seems like it will probably make me feel even worse. (And I've seen around JM, not this board, about how I(not directly but people in my situation) are stupid and bad mom's for choosing a c-section for the reason I did).
I may watch it later down the line but not any time soon.
(and to be honest all this talk lately about how inductions are horrid and so are c-sections is waring on me and making me feel worse)

((((big hugs Justine)))) I don't think anyone intends to make you feel bad by posting information about inductions and sections. How you have your baby does not make you a better or worse mom. Besides, I think even the very most 'extreme' pro "all natural no intervention/ no pain meds/ etc" person can agree that you were induced for MEDICAL reasons... not b/c you simply wanted an out... you had medical reasons to induce. And I think the majority of breech babies are delivered via section... lots of hospitals won't even allow a trial labor to see if they flip. Don't beat yourself up, I don't think anyone here is judging you at all!
I loved the business of being born, as did Ben when we watched it when it first came out and was free like two years ago. We got netflix to watch it again while we were pregnant and watched it with my mom too.
Like I said on Rachel's FB status - I don't think the movie is directed at what mom's choose to do or not do, I think it just shows the way birth has evolved within the medical community, and how quick doctors are to push interventions, often without explaining them thoroughly to the mom.

Justine, if I were you, I would have gotten a c section. No doubt about it. I think it's two very different things to have a elected c section / induction and a medically necessary one. I would in a heart beat have a c section if there were any risk to my baby. There is no way I would "gamble" (for lack of better word haha) with my child's life.

Thanks for posting the video.. It's good to get people educated,etc.. I personally had 2 inductions due to medical reasons and my babies were born healthy and unaffected from the condition I had..
Justine - Don't feel bad.. People have different views.. No matter what, there's no difference between a baby born with no meds verses a baby born with help when they get older..

I'm very interesting in seeing this movie! I've yet to watch it LoL. It made a lot of sense, what they were saying, and I've heard/seen that scenario so many times.
Don't feel bad Justine, I CHOSE to have 2 inductions for no medical reason at all. I don't feel like a bad mom, I did what I thought was best for me at the time. I'll admit that I was totally impatient and just wanted to have the baby out. This time, I'm going to avoid induction as much as possible (I really have always wanted to go into labor when baby is ready and I've read more). Induction isn't always a bad thing, just remember that. Regardless of it all, our little cuties are here and healthy, that's what matters

Ditto Shannon, Justine.
Our method of birthing does not dictate who we are and if we are great moms or not. You are a great mom to your children and try not to let anyone make you feel differently. We all need to make decisions that are best for us, the individual, not best for what everyone else thinks.

Don't feel bad Justine, you did what you had to do for the sake of your babies. You all know how important NCB is to me but if Lila hadn't turned in the end I would have gotten the c-section too. I know its supposed to be ok to deliver a breech baby vaginally (the breech position Lila was in anyway) but its not something I would have tried. We can only do what we can do with the circumstances we are given. I've not been induced but I have had my membranes stripped in an attempt to help jump start labor and I've had people tell me thats "unnatural" and an induction when I don't see that at all (it won't help labor unless your body is already ready).

Justine, situations like yours are why I posted the above! I posted this for ladies who are thinking about induction for NON-medical reasons or for first time preggos who haven't seen/heard this info before. I wish I had been told about the risks and increased chances of further interventions when I said yes to pitocin. I didn't post this to attack you or make you feel bad. I simply wanted to share what I thought was valuable information with anyone who wished to view it. I'm very interested in having a NCB this time (and I don't regret DD's medical birth except that I feel like it interrupted my bonding with her) so I want to share my research with anyone else who is interested. It's not possible for you to have had a non-intervention birth because of your medical reasons. That's nothing to be ashamed of! But I won't not share information because it 'might' offend someone. Sorry if this made you feel bad!
