My Mum has the Balanced Translocation in her DNA as well. The doctor won't tell me my sisters results as they have to tell her first, but can't get hold of her.

Mum finally has some answers as to why it took years for her to fall pregnant. They think she was constantly miscarrying, but it was always to early for her to realise she was actually pregnant.

Now my Mum's two brothers and sister (my Auntie and Uncles) have to be tested. I have also requested that my cousin be tested too, as she is pregnant.

This is so unfair

** Update - My sister is okay! She doesn't have it. Now I'm crying happy tears!

I hope it is just your mom! I bet your sister is fine! The good news is that the rest of your family may very well be perfectly fine and your cousin's baby is probably fine even if your cousin is a carrier! (((HUGS)))

Oh wow I hope its not everyone. The fact that she fell pregnant with you, your sister and your brothers is a good sign though.

i'm glad you are finally getting the results back, and while its terrible news that your mom has this, the good news for ttc is that your mom had you and your sister. i'm glad that your sister came back negative.....i wonder if its like 50/50 that you pass it on. I hope all the rest of the tests come back negative sweetie.

How far along is your cousin? Hopefully she doesn't have it.

It has to be encouraging to see your mom has it but she had you and your siblings.

I'm happy that you're getting answers even though they may not be all that great. I think there is hope since your mom had you and your sister. I hoping that all the other tests are negative.

Thanks girls. My Mum is pretty upset - like she thinks it's somehow her fault that we lost our baby. Silly women!

My cousin isn't too stressed out. She already has one daughter, and has already had scans etc on this next baby and everything seems fine. I think she's about 15 weeks now so 'should' have miscarried if there was any unbalanced chromosomes.

I hope the rest of the tests come back good and that your Mom stops beating herself up over something completely out of all your control. Big HUGS

Aw, I could imagine what is going through your mom's head. I hope she doesn't feel too bad, it's not her fault or anyone else's!

My two uncles are more than happy to be tested. My auntie is currently in europe and is stuck there til this volcano calms down! Will talk to her when she comes home, although I know she'll be fine with being tested as well. We are close.

IVF with PGD appointment tomorrow. Really looking forward to that. I think weve decided that if it's all paid for, if it means we can prevent our kids from having this Balanced Translocation, and if we don't have to wait to long... then we'll go for IVF.

Tasha - I am glad your family is all getting tested. Eric's parents have both "forgotten" to go in for the tests so far. We do not know if it was his mom or his dad. He has a sister on his dad's side who is a newlywed and a preschool teacher... hmm I wonder if she'll be trying for a kid soon... and she has NO IDEA there could even be a problem... I think his mother and father both don't want to deal with it, don't want to feel guilty if it was them that passed it on. It is silly but that's human nature, I guess.

With IVF/PGD, will they allow you to hold out embryos who are carriers? We were told that they would only test for balanced vs. unbalanced genes, and implant embryos that were either carriers or normal.

Dominic is a carrier, and while I wouldn't trade one thing about him for the world, I really do dread the day when he decides he is ready to be a father, and we have to tell him.

Kyle - I'm not sure if they check for balanced vs. unbalanced genes, then allow us to only implant only the 'normal' ones... That is one of the questions on my verrrry long list! I will let you know what they say.

I understand to a certain extent why Eric's parents don't want to be tested... This has really upset my Mother... It's so silly - she didn't even know she had this Balanced Translocation, and yet she feels 'responsible' for us losing our baby.

I do think it's selfish of them though - this is something that could cause a huge amount of heartache for Eric's sister, so they should get it done, if only for her.

I've also told my cousin who is pregnant, and she's decided to be tested just in case. She is well over 12 weeks, so should be okay. My Uncle (her Dad) didn't want me to tell her, but I think she has a right to know!

I'm so torn about wanting to have my own children, but am so concerned about the guilt I will feel knowing I have passed this genetic disorder on... You fell pregnant right in the middle of finding out about Eric having this, didn't you?

I think you did the right thing in telling your cousin! If she does have it then she can have her daughters tested so they will know if they are carriers or not! I would want to know if I were in her shoes! I really hope EVERYONE else tests negative! (((HUGS)))
