When Lily was 11 weeks old I had her outside and when the light hit her head I noticed she has a white spot on her temple. Our friend has one of these in almost the same spot on his head - there's just no pigment there, so he has dark hair and has always had like a pencil eraser sized patch of white hair there. Lily has one too but its about the size of a quarter. Since she still doesn't have a lot of hair you can see that the skin is all white, it doesn't match the rest of her skin tone. And the hair growing in in that area is white.
Admittedly, I was a little upset when I discovered this. It's by no means the end of the world or anything even remotely traumatic. I didn't cry about it or anything but I was sad because this was the first thing "not perfect" about my baby. I guess its shallow. It just breaks my heart because I'm afraid she's going to get made fun of when she's in school and called cruella de ville or something. Little kids can be SO mean and I don't want her to be insecure about it. With a boy its not as noticeable but if she has long hair she's going to have one big long white streak.
Of course then I started googling it so I would have an official name when people asked about it or something... like if its a birth mark or what. And as you all know if you google anything the worst stuff comes up and people on message boards were over-reacting and rushing to pediatricians and having tests run, etc. and it can be a marker or symptom for all sorts of dieseases and things like really low IQ, late on-set deafness and other scary things.
But I'm sure its probably just a birth mark or something. Everyone I have pointed it out to IRL is instantly like "oh that's so cool!" .. and I guess it would be rude of them to have any other kind of reaction, but I'm not at the point where I think its cool... I'm just worried she's going to get made fun of for being different. I read online that white strips like that don't hold color/curl/etc for some reason so there isn't any 'hiding' it.
Anyway, I just wanted to post about it b/c as her hair grows out it'll be more obvious and I figured I'd mention it so its not an elephant in the room or something. I feel like by posting this I'm making mountains out of mole hills here, but whatever. lol.
You can see it on the right side (her left) above her eye, in the temple area... might look like a bald patch since its hard to see with the white hair. Its more obvious in the sunlight.

My friend in highschool had that and I thought it was the neatest thing! I don't believe he was ever made fun of or anything (and he had long enough hair that he wore a ponytail). He didn't make a big deal out of it so none of us did either! And when I was in the wild "I wanna dye my hair purple" days I was jealous that he had a cool streak naturally!

My first thought is that perhaps as she grows the area will seem smaller and smaller while her head grows, ya know? She's still so beautiful of course! I wouldn't read / google any more, but you could bring it to your doctors attention.
And where did the non photogenic baby girl go? All I see is a little miss thang posing up a storm! She's adorable!! I love the last picture!
I had this SAME reaction to Dustin's crinkled ear. So I know some what how you feel!

My friend in HS had one too! BUT hers covered almost her whole left eyebrow. So her mommy always (once she got old enough of course) dyed it the same color as her other brow so she wouldnt get made fun of in school I guess. I remember being at her house when it was time to touch up once...and the mom really didnt want to do it because "she loved her baby the way she was and thought it was cute" but the little girl wanted her to!
I think its adorable Your baby is absolutely perfect Shannon!

I think it is pretty common, a guy I went to hs had one too, it was obvious but I don't think anyone ever said anything to him about it. I think miss Lily is still adorable, white patch or not.

I hope this isn't insensitive of me, but I think it is pretty cool too. I think it will look good as she gets older if it sticks around, it is in a spot where it looks like she had it dyed to do that... a lot of people do dye their hair to get the look she will have! And if she did feel insecure about it she could hide it pretty well with highlights. Heck, if she keeps her light hair it might not even be noticeable!
But I can understand why you feel the way you do.

I know a family where all of them have a blonde streak in the hair, all of them on the front. In their case I guess it's some genetic thing.
I think it will be cool looking as she grows up. I can understand why it might bother you in a way, but she is perfect and this just makes her unique.

If she has nice think hair like yours I'd think it wouldn't be that noticeable. Google is evil... I get myself worked up over it a lot. As a mom I can relate to worrying about her getting teased. It is sad how mean kids can be at such a young age.
I babysat a little boy who had a white spot on the back of his brown hair but never knew it was so common. It must be common because everyone so far has known someone with it.

I do think it's cool too. I think it will blend int her hair as it becomes thicker and longer. I too have a friend with a "patch" and we all thought it was so cool.
And Angela's (the one who married the nerd) comment is spot on! LMAO!

What's awful is you are TOTALLY right. As if its not bad enough from my side, my SIL has like the biggest boobs EVER, and so does my MIL despite having already had a breast reduction. When she was born and her girlie parts were all swollen from the surge of hormones, I freaked out DH by being like "look she already has boobs... told you we were doomed!"
Thanks for all the comments ladies. I guess the white spot is pretty common. I'm really not that bothered by it now, I just dont want her to get teased. The spot is perfect on her temple though, when I'm wearing her I constantly kiss it!

A guy in high school had the name thing. I think it's neat Taylor has a strawberry patch under her neck and I'm always so afraid people will make fun of her. It's gotten smaller and I have gotten people, including little kids, that ask about it but never say anything negative.

I have a white streak in the front of my head (where my bangs are, but they are long) I have always had it, nobody has ever said anything about it. And if they ever did I would say that I was like Rogue on xmen. lol

There was also a girl at our school with a white streak in her hair too. I thought it was neat as well and I don't ever recall anyone making fun of her. She actually was pretty popular.

i think its really unique and cool too! she is utterly gorgeous!
and as far as getting made fun of, i dont think it will really be an issue. like i got made fun of relentlessly as a kid and there's nothing special or different about me, and then theres my little sis who has Crouzon's Syndrome and looks completely different from all the other kids and she's like miss popularity! boys fight over her! so i think sometimes kids arent mean for the reasons we think they would be...the just tease the weakest kids, and i was sooo shy so thats why they picked on me. but i'm sure that smuggy won't be shy!!
