Seriously, y'all, North Carolina has got it going ON when it comes to how the medical community approaches labor and delivery. I am researching OBs and midwives in NC and I am SO excited about the opportunities out there. I feel like I might just get that wonderful experience Lee and I were so hoping for when we had Violet.
There is a lovely, beautiful birth center not that far from where we'll be living that I would love to deliver at but it looks like my insurance is going to be a butt about it since it's not affiliated with a hospital. Because I don't particularly want to spend $6,000 out of pocket (and Lee's balls crawled up into his abdominal cavity when I told him the amount), I started looking at area hospitals. We are going to tour a few this summer but we are 99% sure we'll deliver at the University of North Carolina Hospital with the UNC midwives. They have a birth center in the hospital but separate from the maternity ward with water birthing suites and private rooms, plus there is no nursery so it's 100% rooming in. For the antibiotic eye ointment and vaccinations (which we struggled so much with Violet), you actually have to consent to have them done, otherwise they don't do it. Further... they provide FREE doula service! All of their doulas are DONA trained and certified and the doula you meet with at your 30 week appt will be your on call doula for your birth (barring any unforeseen events, naturally).
I am positively overjoyed at all of the info I received today. Everyone was so nice when I spoke to them and was so excited, they acted like this was their first pregnant patient, haha. It reminded me so much of Lily's birth - the environment was so joyful and everyone acted genuinely invested in our journey.
I'm officially getting excited!
--
PS, I forgot to mention they also offer free pre and postnatal yoga classes (just mom and a couples class) for all of their patients and you get a complimentary 45 min aromatherapy massage post-delivery.

I was just looking for an update from you! Have you gotten an official EDD yet? How are you feeling? Are you and Lee still doing okay with the shock? UPDATE PLEASE!

We went to Memphis for a long weekend so I've been offline the past few days. I don't have an official EDD yet, my first OB appt is Thursday and I'm hoping since my dates and cycles are so wonky that they'll do a quick u/s to help determine gestation. Based on my LMP it would be Nov 23rd but since I ovulated late, I'm guessing more the first week of Dec. So far I'm still feeling great - no nausea, vomiting, bad smells, etc. I haven't put on any weight and I'm still wearing all of my pre-pregnancy clothes without a problem. I was a bit exhausted today but I think it was mostly because we were on the go all weekend and I didn't stay as hydrated as I typically do.
Everyday I feel a little more excited and a little less overwhelmed. I think my main thing right now is that I don't feel pregnant in any form or fashion, it's like this very abstract concept for me still at times. I know once I see/hear the heartbeat it will become real so I'm very much looking forward to Thursday's appt.

I have a mid-morning appt followed by a spa/pampering session courtesy of my wonderful hubby and I'm on central time, so it'll probably be early evening.

I am so lost now! Charlotte is not Central Time! Or do you mean that you're just still running behind because you were out of town? Maybe I'm losing it! Or are you still out in the midwest for now? I think I missed something!

I totally think you should, lol. Just fly on out, you can stay at my house, and I promise to pamper you postpartum! I mean really, you can't pass that offer up!

Haha, trust me, it's hard even for me to keep up with sometimes. Right now we are in Little Rock, AR while Lee completes his advanced flight training. In early to mid-September we will be moving back to Charlotte, when I'm about seven months pregnant.

Sounds so wonderful!! Maybe this little beautiful surprise is going to give you a wonderful amazing birthing experience
I'm super excited for you and so glad that you are feeling less over whelmed by it all. It felt strange expecting my third and you being done, we seem to do everything (almost) together haha.
