It was steady raining. I was sitting at a traffic light less than a mile from home, on why way to a dentist appt. (Henry was at home with my mom). All of a sudden this mini van runs the light trying to turn down my road and slams in a small truck that was just driving by. The front of the van ripped off, the truck was sandwiched into the light pole. All of this was mere feet from me. Flecks of glass sprayed on my windows. I was a sitting duck and an angel was watching over me.

I was okay, but in shock. People kept going thru the light like nothing at happened. I called 911 and was yelling to both drivers (they were out of their vehicles and tending to their front passengers) that someone was coming to help. There was gas leaking everywhere, the truck driver was swearing terribly. The passenger in the van was an elderly lady on oxygen and she was crying.

Some off duty EMT stopped and started to help. Finally the emergency people came. I got back in my car, moved it back as far as I could (about 100 feet) and watched the rest of the scene. They had to cut the entire cabin hood off the truck to get the passenger out. When they did remove him, he wasn't moving and I seriously hope he will be okay. 3 of the 4 people were set out on stretchers. A cop came up to me and asked me about what I saw, then asked me to wait. I watched it all for another 1/2 hr until everyone was gone, then answered a few more questions.

While I was waiting, I had a panic attack. I just wanted to get the heck out of there. I kept thinking of how close I was to being hit. I thought of Henry and how thankful I was he was at home. DH is on business travel for the next month and what if something had happened to me? I didn't give a crap about myself, only my son.

I never made it to my appt. I just turned around and went home. So glad my mom was there to let me cry alittle.

That is scary. I hope everyone is okay.

That is actually what happened to me a couple of years ago, just not quite as bad (was t-boned by a man running a red light)... but that is why I had back problems and had to wait to ttc for another year. Let me just say you are an angel for sticking around! I still remember the lady who stuck around at my accident. She hung around made sure everyone was okay, helped called 911, gave a statement... whereas a lot of people might just keep on going with their day (and a lot of the witnesses did, it was a full intersection and she was the only one who stayed). I really appreciated her taking hours out of her day for me and won't ever forget her. You did a great thing!
