There's an indoor pool in my community and I want to know... have any of you BF mom swam or went to the beach/pool while breastfeeding. I fear that I might leak into the pool. I never leak in the shower but I'm only in there for about 5-10 minutes. But when I get out, if it has been a few hours since I pumped/nursed, then I start leaking.

I do want to go swimming over the summer. But I'll pass if it means I have to stop pumping.

I went swimming last summer but Oliver was around 9-10 months old. I wasn't leaking like in the beginning. I do remember leaking a bit when getting out of the shower in the beginning.

Have you heard about Lily Pads(I think that is the name of them). You can swim with them because they suction on your breasts. I have a pair that didn't work great if I was engorged but they would be okay at the pool if you pumped before going.

I would think you would be okay swimming even if you did leak a bit because of the chorline. People/children pee in pools and breastmilk shouldn't be any worse.

I would think it would be fine if you are just worried about the bodily fluid leakage. That's what the chlorine is for! I'm sure we would be surprised what kind of bodily fluids make it into pools. I don't mean to be gross, but it isn't like women wear a tampon every time they are in the pool... what about CM leakage, you know?

I still leak like crazy and that's not keepin' me outta the pool... it'll be nice being completely wet and not just having wet spots for a change!

I'd think the only thing you would have to worry about it wet spots if your out of the pool for a long period of time.. however that's easily covered up with dunking in and getting wet or else wrapping up with a towel (declare modesty! haha). I wouldn't worry about leaking into the pool or anything like that... trust me other "things" worse then BM are floating around in the pool! lol

I'm not sure how much help my comments will be since Amara was a lot older when I went swimming. She was 6 months old when I started going back to the beach. I never had a problem.

When Nora was about 6 weeks old I was still nursing and we went down to the beach in SC....I wore my suit and just went inside manually expressed every time I felt heavy or like I might let down (or I would just go inside and nurse her- we were at a beach house!). I also went in the pool with Harrison so was went for a good bit of the time and you couldn't tell anything was happening. I didn't have a heavy flow though at any point so I didn't leak alot anyway. If you are going to be dry alot just wear regular nursing pads.....discretely take the out when you go for a dip and put new ones in when your suit is starting to get dry again!

Thanks ladies!!! You're right, there's much worse in pools. Id rather find out I'm swimming in BM than pee lol.

I leak very often. But hopefully I'll be able to pump right before so that way it'll be a while before I have a letdown.
