Okay Ladies...so far, I've made ZERO progress with the insurance and the OB's off that I called Friday still hasn't called back. We got our state tax refund back and I was going to use it for cloth diapers. Problem is, I don't want to buy gender neutral diapers. I want to buy boy or girl diapers! So I went looking for a 3D ultrasound office here in Colorado. I found one, but we can't afford the 3D package, we can afford the 2D package. Which is only $99. And DH doesn't want to do the 3D ultrasound and I want to respect his wishes! I don't want to go and do the ultrasound without seeing a doctor first, but DH thinks it's a good idea because it'll put my mind at ease just seeing the baby and I'll get to know the gender and order gender specific diapers. So...should we just go ahead and do the ultrasound? Or should we wait until we see a doctor at least???

Ditto to Angela. All the places around here require proof of going to prenatal visits. KUP

I did an early gender ultrasound and I had to have proof of being under my midwifes care AND copies of my first ultrasound.

Ditto to the girls! My SIL did the 3D ultrasound and she had to have proof of prenatal care as well!

If by "unassisted" you mean women who choose not to have prenatal care, I've never encountered an unassisted momma who even wanted an ultrasound.

I had one done in the UK without any proof on care, but that is kinda far away so that doesn't help you out So, how long do they think you are going to have to wait for your insurance to be approved? You would think they would want to speed it up since you are already in your 2nd tri.

Yeah, I agree, when I had my gender u/s done at 16 weeks (quick 2D) I had to give proof that I was under my midwives care. I never did get the big anatomy scan done though, we chose not to and it didn't impact getting the 3D one done at 28 weeks. Is there any way you can get in for an initial appt and pay out of pocket, maybe save the inital blood work and whatnot for a later appt when you have the insurance in place?

I'm not sure how everything works in the US but I would wait. You may get to see all that you need at the doctors and use the money saved for something else.

Mine didn't require proof of prenatal care but did make me write down the name/phone # of my dr and sign a thing giving them permission to contact my doctor if they saw anything "wrong." The place that did it was only open after normal business hours and the woman has worked in a high risk practice doing this for years and years.
I know here, if you don't have insurance but expect to be approved to get covered by the state, they'll take you because the state insurance 'back pays' for prenatal appointments - does it not work that way there? Here they practically hold your hand making sure you get to every single appointment, I can't fathom them not letting you go yet!

Wow I cant believe that they are letting you go this long with out prenatal care. Don't they usually rush ya in and back pay and all that stuff??? I hope you can get in soon!
It sounds like you need to have seen a dr and done an ultra sound already or atleast havea doctor lined up before doing the 3d 2d.

I thought it worked here, but NO ONE will let me make an appointment without being approved first! Which I don't understand!!! I had to call the insurance and tell them that I'm a high risk pregnancy because of my bicornuate uterus and preterm labor. So NOW I should get a status approval or denial in 5 days! But it's better than 45 day. I had to speak to a supervisor and she yelled at me for "not stating my high risk to the customer service agents" even though I had...they didn't put it in the notes!
