For about 10 years or so I have had so many health "issues" that my mom seriously called me a hypochondriac... she basically told me I was looking for attention. Well I made an appt with the NP in my office (I work for a Rheumatologists office) for today.. and I finally have an answer to prove I wasnt just looking for attention. Its a hyper-sensitivity to pretty much everything.. pain, light, sounds.. its also known as Fibromyalgia.. and I am torn. On one side Im relieved because I actually have a diagnoses for pretty much EVERYTHING in my medical past (other than the PCOS and Infertility) on the other side this is a huge blow to my self esteem and optimism.. Fibro isnt something that is cured, but rather its managed.. something I have to live with for the rest of my life. The NP and I are going to manage it without meds and hope for the best. She is completely on board with waiting until the last possible moment (if ever) to go on meds!

Rant over.. thanks for "listening"

My boss has Fibro and her doctors have found a way for her to manage it really well, to the point where it doesn't have a negative affect on her daily life anymore. I hope they get a solution figured out for you quickly.

thats sad that your mom never helped out But yay for getting answers!! Thats great that you can manage it without meds!! Could this be a possible reason for the infertility (ontop of PCOS?)

thanks ladies! Not that she thinks Beth.. When my mom called to find out how the appt went I told her she owed me an apology for all the years of hurt that she made me feel. She said sorry and now understands it's something real.

Tasha it's basically a painful condition that can affect joints, muscles, can cause depression and other mood disorders. Had all my other drs in my life communicated with each other it would have been found out years ago. Between GI issues, pain issues with all my joints/muscles... It's going to be a long haul but at least now I can begin it!

I'm sorry about the results but I think it's good that you got some answers and can begin a process to manage it.

I am also sorry about your mom's reactions when you were a child. It broke my heart to read that. It's good that she was able to admit her wrong and apologize.

(((HUGS)))

I'm so sorry, but am glad that finally someone took you seriously and now you can be on the road to management. I have ankylosing spondylitis, which I'm sure you know all about if you work for a rheumatology clinic. I went a long time in serious pain, and had nearly every family member and a good handful of doctors basically say I was faking or at least being a drama queen. So I know its really hard when your own family doesn't take you serious.

Uhhhh! I typed out a long response yesterday and then the boards went down again (or whatever its doing) and it was lost!

Anywhoo...ill make it short and sweet this time. My aunt has fibromyalgia and im not gonna lie up until a few months ago her life was spent just dealing with the pain and trying to find the right combination of meds. BUT she is not the best example because she has Lupus as well. Anyway, a few months ago her Dr finally found the right combo of meds and she has been living life like never before!! Normally she is either limping or complaining of some other type of pain, but I havent seen her do either in MONTHS! Its like she's a new person! So I hope your Dr can find the right meds for you when your ready to start trying meds!

Aw I'm sorry all this time people haven't been believing you were in pain, that must have really been the icing on the cake!

I know some mamas here on JM have it and there's actually a social group for it, you may want to check that out--
