How far in do I put a suppository? It's the liquid kind. I tried to do one but I don't think any got in because I didn't stick it in enough. I going to try again. I'm nervous about hurting him! Long story short I took him to the doc today because he was crying all morning and holding his diaper. I found out he is full of poop. I feel so bad for him. He is finally acting like normal but still has not pooped.

We never used them for Seamus (He had pooing issues for basically the first 2yrs) we used Miralax.
I've only used the solidish ones on myself when pregnant and after the c-section and it may be different for an adult then a child so I'm not sure. For me they said push it till the tip of my finger was all the way in(they gave me gloves to do it with), but like I said liquid I'm not sure.
Poor little man

oh poor thing! I honestly dont know but I'd shoulve it up like a half inch maybe? about the same as you'd do a rectal thermometer.
um shoulve = shove. haha, not sure what that typo is about!

I've never used the liquid so I'm not really sure. Liam always had a ton of pooping issues and I've only used the pediatric solid ones. But I insert them about half a fingertip in. Sometimes it would work right away, other times it could take up to 12 hours.

How is it meant to be inserted? Is the liquid in a syringe and you push it through a plastic tube? I've used plenty of the capsule-like suppositories on Jaxon. I just hold up his legs while he is lying down like I would to wipe his bottom. Then I just shove it in, lol. Sometimes I use a bit of Vaseline on them, but in reality they go in just fine on their own.
ETA: Oh, are you talking about an enema?

Jessie, it's not an enemia. It's liquid in a tube and I need to just insert the end and then squeeze the liquid inside. I'm just worried I might put it in too far or not far enough. So maybe try to get it in 1/2"? He doesn't want me to put it in and when I try he starts to move. This stinks!

OK, I get it now!
You don't have to be extremely worried about the exact distance it goes in. Closer to an inch is probably better. 1/2 inch might be too close to the rectal opening, and then everything might just come shooting back out at you.
Not that you should, but a doctor doing a rectal exam can easily put his entire index finger into the rectum without any issues... so 3-4 inches. If you have any lube (vaseline or ky) the just lube up the end and hold his legs with his knees toward his belly (you might need help if he is being squirmy) and then insert the end approx an inch. It should slide in smoothly especially with the lube. If you meet resistance, stop, pull it out and try again.

Im sorry, I had to do it with Cambria once when she started on solid's. She went 4 days with out pooping. I had the lil plastic one to that you squeeze. From what I remember there was a line on it? I remember not shoving it in to far though. It pretty much worked Instantly. I hope he's ok!

My mom and I tried a second one. We didn't really get it in because he kept moving and not wanting us to do it. Soo he still hasn't pooped. Now he is sleeping next to me. He didn't get a real nap today so I'm wondering if he is out for the night or is going to wake up and be up all night. Ugh.. I hate seeing him like this. I gotta get that thing in there! I'm such a wimp when it comes to these things.

Angela, he won't drink juice. I've tried several times. It's hard enough getting him to drink water or milk. He gets most fluids from BM still.
Well, when Damon got home it tried to give him the suppository (round 3). I was surprised that he was willing to try because normally Damon doesn't like doing anything that will upset Oliver. Oliver was napping and nursing while he tried to get it in. He did better than me and got some in but still no poop. I just hope he poops tomorrow morning. We are driving to Chicago (3.5 hr drive) and I don't want him to be miserable the whole time.

Did he go yet? Poor baby My Health Visitor used a glycerine supp on Kirsty just before I weaned her off the breast, it was one where you insert the whole thing in her butt and it melts upon contact with body heat. It literally melted and she pooped. But it sounds like different medicine. It wasn't to *make* her poop but to soften what had built up inside her passage.
I hope he's gone already for you
