Do you have a Pool in your back yard? If so do you have a cover or gate for It?
The reason I ask Is we found this great house to rent but It has a pool in the backyard. It is drained but it's still a Big hole in the ground! Im trying to think of what we can do to Cover it up so I can trust my child playing in the back yard...

I'm sure there is some kind of safe cover to buy but it might be pricy. What does David think? I wonder if you could ask the owner/landlord if they have a cover? It would make me nervous if there wasn't a cover on it.

I don't have experience but I don't blame you for being nervous. I think the safest bet is to have a fence around it.

We don't have a pool but they are safety fences and covers for them. They can be costly.

I would vote for gates/fence, something semi permanent that you can move later on when both of the kiddo's are older, and have had swimming lessons.

Hmmm I would imagine that it would be costly whatever you decide to do. I wonder if the landlord can help with the costs???

Ya thats the thing, I dont think we should have to pay for it cause it's not our place but Im sure he can get other renters that wouldn't make demands and rent to them. David make me mad cause he think's a Super yard to go around it will solve the problem. A SUPER YARD? SERIOUSLY? He is SO cheap!
House hunting is eh. We found 2 we like but there are parts about both of them we dont like. But I guess thats what not owning a home is about. Were waiting to hear back from the 2 of the places and checking others in the mean time. I did turn in my 30 day notice though today.

well i hope you find one you like or atleast one that you can make your own!
I would think an actual fence fence would be best... but I guess it depends on where the pool is located. I would be real paranoid!

We have a pool cover for my parents pool during the winter time. The pool people come and put it on and take it off each season. It has big springs that hook into hooks in the cement and its pulled super tight so it kind of is like a trampoline but not very bouncy. The dogs all love to run across it, haha. The 200 pound pool guys walk across it no big deal, so I think this would be perfectly safe in your scenario. The little kids in our family will run across it, etc. but as they've gotten older and we're not in the backyard with them all of the time we've started breaking them of this. Anyway, I sorta have a picture with it in the background:
okay I just did some quick googling and they're called 'safety pool covers' -- in order to qualify as 'safe' they have to hold 485 pounds per square foot. They appear to be in the $400-$600 range.

I definitely recommend it. My little sister fell into our pool once or twice growing up (with a cover, but it didn't hold? I don't remember) and its TERRIFYING.

Wow, it doesn't even seem safe to have a drained pool without a cover to begin with. I mean, what if a neighbor kid decides to chase after a ball, pet or something and has to run through the yard and manages to fall into the pool???
It wouldn't hurt to ask right?!

Ye3ah that would make me very nervous as well. Dh and I already said that when we start looking for a house, no pools.

Thanks Shannon. Ya that Is the type I would want, I think. But since It's not "Our" property I dont know he would feel about drilling holes into the cement. Now we just noticed he re enlisted the property for $50 less! Hmmmm
