So I contacted this doula service in NC about a month ago and spoke with one of the doulas there (they have four total on staff I believe). I explained to her our situation (living in AR, moving to NC in Sept) and she detailed their services and related costs. I had not yet been to my doctor and was still unsure of my due date but thought it would be sometime in December. She told me they already had a mom on the schedule for December and they typically do not take as many clients during the holidays so as soon as I was sure of my due date, I should call back.
Ok, so to be honest, I forgot to call back and then since it's been a month, I lost the phone number. So I emailed the service through their website and a different doula called me back. I mention I'm moving to NC in the fall and asked if there were slots left open for December, she said according to their scheduling calendar there was at least one, if not two. When I previously spoke to the other doula, she said I could put down a refundable $200 deposit and then if I met with the doulas in September and didn't feel comfy with any of them I could get my deposit back. She assured me that they have wait lists for slots so it wouldn't be a problem if I dropped out.
So I tell this new doula that I want to make my deposit and she said she would have to check because there weren't any notes and they typically do not take clients sight unseen (her words). She then went on to say, and I quote, "Last month we considered taking this woman from Kansas or somewhere but Sally Jane (made up name for the first doula I spoke with) thought the husband was crazy. He was some kind of military, a pilot or something, and she said he just sounded like a crazy military guy making his wife move all over while she's pregnant." So that's when I tell her I'm in Arkansas, my husband is in the Air Force, and no, my husband isn't crazy nor does he have any control over when or where we move, thankyouverymuch.
I mean, what in the heck?! Lee never even talked to these people so how could they possibly think he was crazy? And duh, Lee isn't making me move all over while I'm pregnant, we accidently got knocked up in the middle of a temporary duty assignment and the military is moving us. ARGH! I'm so mama bear pissed off right now over this!
Obviously I'm on the hunt for a different doula. JERKS!

omg! Are you kidding?! I would be FUMING. You guys moving is out of your control, and how unprofessional for her to be trash talking like that. They're crazy... I hope you're able to find someone else, and I'm glad you discovered their craziness before hiring any of them!

She basically just stumbled over words for a bit and then said she would email me to let me know if they had a slot available for me in December, not that I would take it. I know this is a shocker, but she hasn't sent me an email.

Maybe there really is a pregnant lady out there in Kansas with a crazy military husband ??? In any event she shouldn't have talked about people in a derogatory way period.....glad you're going to find something else!
It would have been really funny if the ladies' name was really Sally Jane...such a nice NC southern name! HA!!!!

I dont know what to say! Im disgusted for you!
How dare she juudge you and your family life when they know nothing about you - even if your husband was like that, its not in their place to go gossiping like that to other clients!!!
If you asked me, you found out at the right time and not after you'd et your heart on them even more!
Im just flabbergasted!

That's shockingly unprofessional. I'd be the type to send a letter saying so to whoever is the director of that clinic. Furthermore, I'd probably trash them on buisness rating websites. I'm so glad you didn't give them any of your hard earned military money!

She clearly has no knowledge about the military or professionalism. She is a nut.

Wow I'd definitely write a pretty nasty letter about their level of service and unprofessional ways.
What a b****!
