How do I tell if he is holding his poop in or trying to push it out? We are still having major poop issues. He hasn't got much out at ALL since I took him to the doctor's office last Thursday. We got some children's lax yesterday and still nothing. He seems to try on and off through out the day but Damon think he is fighting it. I've thought he is trying to push it out. We are getting the Miralax and trying that. I hate trying the synthic meds but the natural ways have not worked. Damon wants to take him to the ER tomorrow if he still hasn't gone. What a poop nightmare.

Yes. We have tried prune juice and prunes, peaches, pears, juice (he won't drink much of any kind), offering more water.

Poor little Oliver.

If he is grunting and tensing his abdomen (which you can feel) then he is trying to go. Have you tried a couple spoonfuls of Karo syrup? I know that can work for some kids.

Poor Oliver!!! I know this sounds really discussing but my German doctor told me to melt a teaspoon of butter into warm cows milk. I never tried this but I have a friend who did and that baby pooped alot!

Resi are there any foods he eats which you could add prune juice to? Or would he eat dried prunes or apricots? I make an oaty fruity bar for Kirsty for snack sometimes and it definately helps with toilet: Flapjacks, Flapjack Recipe, Healthy Flapjack Recipes

Also, do you get Weetabix over there? Breakfast cereal? I gave Kirsty some last week - she used to have it during weaning but she hasn't had it for a while, and I also noticed it went straight through!!

Fi, He is picky and it's hard to get him to eat almost everything. He is smart and I can't fool him. I've tried many times. That recipe looks tasty. I'm not so sure he'd eat it but it might be worth a try. Nothing makes this kid poop!

does he eat fresh fruit ok? What about ice cream/ice lollies (Are they called popsicles with you? I always wondered that )

If he'd eat ice lollies, you could freeze prune juice mixed with apple or orange... to perhaps disguise the flavour

I agree with Emma. It's such a difficult situation, you don't want to upset him by trying different things, but at the same time you know he *has* to empty his bowels. Kirsty had terrible poop issues right before I weaned her from breast to bottle, it was due to her not taking proper feeds from me therefore she was lacking fluids.

Our Health Visitor used a glycerine suppository inserted into Kirsty's botty, and I felt horrendous, she didn't really cry much but she was definitely wondering what was happening to her. However, she pooped right there on the examination bed

how many days has it been since he had a poo, no matter how small... and how many days has it been since he had what you'd class as a proper poo?

Have you considered using Probiotics?

My daughter has constipation problems from time to time.. It's mainly because she's a picky eater and has as small appetite..

We use Yum Yum probiotics.. She loves them and keeps her regular and it's good for them..

Looks like this:

Yum-Yum Dophilus
You can buy these at Super Supplements in the refrigerator section..

Doctor's Analysis: Probiotics for Chronic Constipation? - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

Edit to add:

My daughter was on Miralax also.. It helped but she has to have it everyday or she'll get constipated again.. I didn't like that.. With the probiotics, she can miss a day or a week or two and she'll still be regular..

The last time he got a little rock hard ball of poop out was Sunday. He pooped some on Friday and Saturday but each time was a hard ball of poop. It wasn't much at all. It was a week before that (so two weeks) since he had a big poop that is normal for him. He has had problems since he started solids and a lot of the time he only goes once per week (on that day he will go a couple times maybe). Damon just put another suppository up his butt. This is like the 3 one not including are attempts with the liquid ones. It's awful because he freaks out and gets very upset. Almost every time I change his diaper he is scared I'm going to try to stick something up him.

I've taken probiotics on and off. I don't think they help me much. I'm going to get some for him tomorrow when I go shopping at WF. Damon got him the Miralax this evening. I hate giving him something like this but I have to try it at this point. I don't want to make it an everything day thing.

He has been trying to poop a little just now. But he always gets up and stops trying. Everyone pray he poops tonight before bed!

What will they do at the ER? Damon thinks they will put him to sleep and give him an enema. I don't want to do all that at all.

I'd personally wait for the Miralex to do it's thing.. If it doesn't give relief, I'd take him to the Ped and I'm guessing they'll do X-rays to see what's causing the blockage.. I hope it's nothing.. **fingers crossed**

I think it depends on the brand.. We've had great success with Jarrow and New Chapter vitamins (they have probiotics in them).. We learned to take those at night.. lol We did try another brand, but it never helped much in that area..

I got him to drink some Miralax mixed with chicken borth (he loves soup usually). He didn't finish it all but maybe half. I'm going to give him more tomorrow. I hope this helps. Our pedi's office has walk in hours tomorrow morning and we plan on taking him in. I feel like helpless and like it's my fault. Tomorrow I'm going shopping and will stock up on fiber foods and other things that are suppose to help. I'm cutting out all diary products too. Maybe crackers and those kind of snacks too.

Does anyone think my breastmilk can be causing problems? I don't see how it could because he was so good with only BM before solids came along.
