Ok, I'm sure we've discussed this before but I'm honestly too lazy to sift through posts, haha. I love my mei tai carrier but I want something with buckles instead of just tying the fabric, I need the speed and ease of buckling. When I look at the Ergo and Beco online, I really don't see THAT much of a difference other than price.

For moms who have used both carriers, which one did you prefer and why?

Aimee, I just found a thread on another board I'm a member of where they discuss the Ergo and Beco. It looks like people like the Beco more because of ease of use. I was already leaning toward the Beco but I'm still interested in hearing what the mamas here have to say!

I tried them both on and found the beco more complicated. I ended up getting an ergo. The ergo is super easy. Easy enough for DH to put on without my help...which was really important to me.

When Angela came here she brought her Ergo Sport and a beco she had borrowed from another mama, so I got to test drive both, and I wound up going with the Beco. I think that they are both great carriers and were equally comfortable and easy to use. The reason I went with the beco is b/c it has a piece of fabric between mama and baby... so you can put her on in the front and switch her to your back easier, and also, if I'm wearing her but want to switch to daddy, i can just kind of take her off like a backpack and attach her to him, without ever removing her frmo the carrier. It also has a different kind of buckle at the shoulders -- it has an extra little button to squeeze. It doesn't make it mroe dificult, but its just an added step in security so the LO can't undo it themselves or something. I think the ergo would be easier to BF in, but with my boobs being big/saggy I have to hold them anyway so that wasnt something I was looking for in a carrier. I think the ergo would probably be less hot simply b/c there isn't that extra piece of fabric between you and baby... but then again, maybe not b/c it'd be closer to skin to skin heat contact. I'm really happy with my beco, but I think I ccould have been just as happy with an ergo too.

I got the Ergo, haven't tried the beco. I like it but it isn't all that great for tiny babies (not sure if you are planning to use it for the one on the way or the kiddos you have now). I've only put it on once so far, though, so I might not have done it quite right. I did read on the reviews that it isn't good for newborns, so I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way. And yes, I was using the newborn insert. But I got it because of the rave reviews on the lumbar support.

Also, the straps are a little small, definitely European. DH isn't obese, but he is a big guy with a linebacker kind of build (about 290 lbs) and it would not even come close to fitting him. Again, maybe I'm just not working it right, but it looks like it wouldn't fit anyone over 200 lbs I'm guessing.

The waist belt on the beco goes up to 57 inches (not that DH needs that much! haha) but he enjoys carrying her in the beco and is able to take it on and off himself, and it definitely fits him okay.

I still think mobys are best for newborns. Lily was 3 months old exactly when I wore Angela's borrowed beco and she didn't have the infant insert with her but she was fine all weekend. We still use the infant insert in the beco I own though.

This carrier will be for the new baby and I don't know that I'll be nursing in it. I've never really quite gotten the knack of that but who knows, maybe the third time really is the charm! I'm definitely wanting to use it from day one so the fact that people are saying the Ergo isn't the best for newborns is a concern for me.

I like that you can swap from person to person with the Beco but I don't know how frequently we would be using that option, Lee doesn't really wear the kids. The only time he does is when we are hiking and then he has this crazy contraption: Deuter Kid Comfort III. I swear it's so huge I could sit in it.

I don't have either but I did try out both of Angela's and I liked them both probably equal. Neither put alot of weight on my back even with my 26lb baby in it. I'd go with winch ever is cheaper!

I have a Beco and I love it! And it's really easy to use..

I was looking at the Ergo too, since they are the same price.. But it looks to much like Camping gear.. That's the last thing I want my carrier to look like.. Keep in mind, I live in an area where people do out door stuff,etc..

Troy likes the ergo better because he didn't like that fabric between the baby and him on the becco..... But want an insider tip... the NEW becco Gemini will be release this summer and will not have that flap. I'm waiting for the new one to come out and then get a becco. I BF london all the time in the carrier so I can't have the flap, its to weird to feed around.

I don't know why, but I actually kind of like the flap! I don't know, maybe I think it makes it seem cozy and secure? Obviously my mei tai never had a flap like that and it never bothered me - I really can't put my finger on it, haha.

Is the Gemini going to be the same price? I've seen reviews of it but haven't seen a price point yet.

I like my Beco and I think I like the fabric in between b/c it feels less like I am going to drop him while I try to put him in BUT I tried Angela's Ergo sport and I think the straps felt more comfy to me. I also think next time I want the option to nurse in the carrier, but I don't know if I will get the hang of it. I am trying to justify getting an Ergo for my next baby and having both the Ergo and Beco. And maybe a moby too. Hmm...well we won't have to buy high chair/pack and play and all that stuff so....

Oh and I don't think I could BF Matthew in the Beco but I dont know if I could in the Ergo either, at this point. Maybe I could have when he is younger but he's so tall that there is no way to get him down low enough to reach my boobs.

i have an ergo that i've used with payne & i like it, but its tad big for me since i'm petite (5'3"). but it cost a lot so both me and my future offspring are just going to have to get used to it! but i will be using it with older babies only, i have moby's and a pocket sling for when they are little bitty.
