Put him in is crib at 8:42 and it's 9:00 right now. He's crying away, but he's getting less and less screamy, if that makes sense.
This is SO hard.... but I mean how much longer can I go on like this ya know? He's old enough to know when sleep time is, and everything like that. I just feel so so horrible.
*sigh*

You poor thing. Hopefully it only takes a few nights before he settles down into a routine.

9:20 and he's been quiet for a few minutes.
I guess we'll see how tonight goes and stuff.
Um for those who have done this... when did you do when they woke up again?

Im sorry....Cambria did this before she was 1. I would go in and get her and everytime I did It would take me HOURS to get her back down again. But she only did this when she was in the PnP in our room. Once she was 13 months? we put her in her crib and slept perfect ever since. She did wake up maybe 3 times in the middle of the night since then. I let her cry for a bit ( till I know she REALLY needs something ) and then I got her. I rocked her and calmed her down but as soon as I put her back she would cry again. I let her cry till she fell asleep. I felt bad cause I SOOOO dont agree with the CIO but she's will never sleep if I dont let her CIO a little. I hope it gets easier for you soon!!

Thanks ladies. I'm not really one for CIO. I mean, I ALWAYS believe that a momma needs to do what she feels is the best for her family but was leary about CIO for us... and it's still hard and not something I want to be doing, at all!!!! But honestly he's been a HORRIBLE sleeper since he was 2 months old... and I just can't take it any more...

Steph, I assume we're talking about Dustin? What time does he wake up at in the morning, what time does he have a nap(s), and what time do you class as bedtime? Is he still on 2 naps or just 1 now?
I had a rough timpe with Kirsty when she was younger, and whilst I am no expert, sometimes it helps to hear other people's wake up/nap/bedtime routines.

Let see, he usually wakes up between 6:30 and 7. He has one nap, for about an hour any time between 11 and 1. Bed time starts around 8 and he's usually asleep by 8:30 the latest. He goes down usually very well but that's with me cuddling him and giving him his bottle until he's VERY asleep... which I think is whats making it hard for him to fall back asleep once he wakes up, he doesn't know how or doesn't want to. He wants me again.
Lastnight he woke up around 2:30 and I changed his diaper and gave him something more to drink, then put him in his bed still awake. He cried for maybe 10 or 15 mins. He woke up at 4:30 and 5:30 ish and cried but I didn't go in. I figured he normally gets up at 6:30 so if I heard him around then I would get him. He cried for about 10 - 15 mins each time and then I didn't hear from him until 7:45. So hopefully tonight goes better and it gets better and better.
He's happily playing beside me now Actually usually he screams and screams and has fits in the morning until Curtis wakes up (he is a HUGE fan of his brother hahaha) but right now he's ALL smiles

Ok, his day sounds ok, if anything I feel the time between waking up from nap and going to bed is a little long, but all kids are different so you'd have to test that one out yourself.
I know CC (controlled crying) and CIO are difficult. We chose CC and it took 1 night of true CC... I had spent an hour standing by her cot hoping she'd sleep, she didn't she was simply mucking about, so I went through to our room (next door) and left her 10 mins, she cried but not hysterical crying, I went in to check her at the 10min mark, came out and back to our room and waited another 10mins, she was out for the count.
This was a fast CC night, but it's not the first sleep training we have done, so I guess it worked faster due to this.
That was about a month ago, since then she has gone to bed no problem, and hasn't woken up through the night - she wasn't a frequent nightwaker, but she used to thrash about her cot terrible, and almost everynight she would cry out, just 1 single cry, then go back to sleep on her own... she doesn't do that now.
I guess the point I am making is, as hard as this is, you need to do it for yourself and for Dustin. Unbroken sleep does wonders to the babies, I notice a huge difference in Kirsty through the day now she sleeps more soundly and that she goes to sleep on her own instead of needing us. I know how hard it is, it's awful But it shouldn't take much longer than a week at the most, in the long-run this is going to help.
DOes James help you with the whole sleep training thing? It's important to have support when doing this. ((((huggles))))

Yes I too think it's a long stretch between waking from his nap and his bed time but we played around with that and I found that if he slept any time after 3 then he took a long time to go to sleep that night, like a couple hours atleast! I think it's rather strange! But seems to work for him!
Yup James is totally on board with this for sure. He's very supportive but also feels the hurt that I do as well.. so we are in it together.
I didn't bother doing CC because I knew he would FLIP if I went in and didn't pick him up instantly. He's a stubborn little booger and I think it would have "restarted" the crying if that makes sense.

All I can say is :HUGS: and you're not alone!!! Preston came home from the hospital sleeping through the night perfectly to waking every 4 hours, to every 3 hours to every 2 hours. That was when we were still co-sleeping. So we put him in his own toddler bed, which was Edward's. He slept wonderfully for about 2 months and since then, it's been hell getting him to sleep! DH goes in every single night at bed time and pats Preston to sleep, which I think I wrong because he's not learning to sleep on his own. Sometimes it takes Chris 2 and 1/2 hours just to get Preston to sleep at bedtime. The boys go to bed at 7pm, and sometimes Chris doesn't get out of their room until about 9p or 9:30pm.
I'm not a fan of CIO, and I absolutely hate it, but I do believe some kids just need it! We had to use CIO with Edward when we moved him from our bed to his own. He cried for 2 hours the first two nights. But after that, it was 45 mins the 3rd night. Then finally, he just went to bed on his own. But Edward was also sleeping through the night when he co-slept with us...we just moved him to his own bed because we were running out of room in our bed.
Chris refuses to let Preston CIO. I have noticed, if Chris pats Preston to sleep at night, then he's up every single hour to half hour. If I either let him CIO at bedtime or skip his daytime nap, he'll sleep through the night. I simply cannot let him skip his daytime nap, that's my "me" time. And I use it to clean!!! It sucks. And I absolutely HATE it, but I don't know what else to do! So I totally understand where you're coming from!!!! Hugs Mama, I hope it gets better for both of us!

Totally makes sense. I used to go in after just a few minutes with Kirsty, but it made her so much more mad.
Of course, because I posted up there that we've had no issues... tonight has been bad But I think she is teething. *sigh*

We've never had issues with our kids sleeping, they have had the routine since a matter of weeks old of bed and getting themselves off to sleep ... Chloe is more of a light sleeper than Ryan so she will stir overnight but she goes back off on her own with no fuss, but we do have the odd nights of her screaming and complaining !! And those nights are tough .. normally its due to teething or being ill !! I hope it settles for you hun xx

So I came straight to this thread and read all these posts after we put Dustin to bed.
last night I tried rocking him to sleep but he wasnt having it so that's when we decided to try letting him go to sleep himself in his crib. Well tonight we did the same bed time routine as Curtis. We all did big hug, little hug, and kiss. Then did it again just for Dustin. Stuck him in his crib and left saying to be a big boy and that we loved him etc etc. He screamed and cried but this time for only 12 mins.... so that's tons better. All is quiet so hopefully that's it for a while... but we'll see.
This is tough but I know this is for the better of both of us. We both need a full nights sleep. I know I was getting to be a very angry mommy from lack of sleep. Hopefully this helps.
Thanks for the support
