After reading Amy's post about buying a new washer/dryer it got me thinking about how want a new washer. We have the front loaders and nothing ever seems clean enough. Towels smell musty, clothes don't wash clean as they should, and we have major diaper stink issues once Oliver pees in them. We paid at least $1k for the washer almost 4 years ago. I'm thinking about trying to sell just the washer on CL and buying a maytag top loader. What do you think I could list it for? The new washer would be around $800.

Kate - what maytag bravo model do you have?

We are about to replace all our flooring downstairs with fake "wood" flooring. So I would have to sell our washer first in order to cover part of the price for the new washer.

Anyone ever sell a washer/dryer and was it easy to sell?

We sold a washer/dryer from our old apartment. We sold it to a person who was looking at the apartment though. We sold it for 80 dollars less then what we paid for it and only used it for 8 months. It was an easy sale. We had them pay us cash on pick up day.

I just listed it on CL fo $500. I'm not sure if that is to much or to little?

I bought a really nice washer/dryer set on CL before, it was a top of the line Kenmore and it's in our rental house at the moment. The only washer/dryer set I ever sold was our super-old stackable that I'm pretty sure was older than me, haha. Obviously I didn't ask or get a lot for it. Good washer/dryer sets do go really fast on CL, though. At least in NC and TX they did.

I have the Maytag Bravos 750 series, the washer has the power wash option and the dryer has the steam clean option. I really loved the red color but we bought it in the white because the floor models they had on sale were white. I think buying white instead of a color saves you about $200. We super-duper hit the jackpot with this set, they were floor models on sale, it was Texas' annual tax-free weekend, and they gave us a military discount - Home Depot REALLY hooked us up.

I can't remember from when I lived in Indiana if they had a tax-free weekend or not - most states run it right before the school year starts - but if they do you can really save a ton of money by waiting for that to roll around.

I am not sure if I asked you this before, Resi... but when you wash your CDs do you throw a wet towel in with them? I've read that front loader users should do that b/c a soaking wet towel adds weight and tricks the machine into adding the necessary extra water to properly swish your diapers clean. Just curious.

I just did it with my last load. I tried rockin' a soak with classic. Soaked for close to 24 hours, did 4 rinses and still smelled when he peed in them. I then did a hard rock soak over night and rinsed 6 times! I swear a smelled a light stink when they came out of the dryer! Oliver is napping in one right now. I'll smell it when he wakes up to see if it's still strong.

How strong or what should a wet cloth diaper normally smell like after a few pees?

I did that with my parents' frontloader and while it did work with diapers, the rest of my clothes and towels still smelled musty. I never was able to get around that.

That's so strange. I've heard nothing but bad things about front loaders... CD and regular laundry.

I have no idea about selling them but 500 seems low considering it's only 4 years old and you paid 1000 for it? But really I know nothing about resale value hahaha!!! I hope it sells super fast so you can get something better!

Ummm my diapers don't really stink if they are just pee. Just that warm light pee smell. I think if you have issues it's a strong ammonia smell right after a pee?? Like the kind that burns your nose?? I think??
