I need your help!
please

I am throwing my baby sister a baby shower. I have no idea where to start.
They are only just really coming into fashion here.
We're throwing her a baby shower/birthday party as she cant really go out and do much as when its her birthday she will be 36wks pregnant

So...

What do you expect at a baby shower?
What decorations do you have?
Do you have foods?
How common are co-ed'd baby showers?
Do you have kids at your baby showers?
Who do you invite?
What games do you play?

Also, throw in any other advice you could offer me on the planning of a baby shower, Thanks in advance

I'd just try to keep it simple...maybe do it in the early afternoon so you can just do light refreshments--like desserts and maybe finger sandwiches and salads. For deco you could go w/ the theme she's going to use for baby's room or anything really...pooh, precious moments, it's a boy/girl, etc.

kids and co-ed are okay. i'd maybe do a couple of games (google baby shower games, there's a lot of 'em out there) and small prizes. have present opening and a cake and that's it!

I threw my friend a baby shower - something that isn't really that common over here either. We went out to a cafe for lunch, and I had organised games etc to play, but none of her friends were interested. My friend had a great time though, so that is all that matters!

Keeping it simple is always good!! For my baby shower my mom just bought a few small decorations, balloons, a few small table centerpieces nothing major.. Its a 2pm shower so they are mostly doing finger foods.. Finger sandwiches, meatballs, pasta salad, chips & dip, cake... Co-ed showers are becoming very popular, but its really a personal thing on that, I told my family/friends I wanted a traditional girls only shower!! Kids are also a personal thing.. I will have a few kids at my shower because I have small nieces/cousins that I don't want to leave out! Invite your closest family & friends!! I''m not big on shower games so I'm no help there, I am really hoping they don't surprise me with games at my shower

I actually requested no shower games, hahaha. My MIL threw mine, lot's of YUMMY food and boy decorations everywhere. It was really basic and simple, nothing too crazy! I did have one kid at mine, she was a riot. And DH stopped by to help load up the car but other than that it was girls only!

We just threw my cousin a baby shower last weekend. It was small and simple so we had it at a restaurant and obviously they provided the food. (I've had showers in a home too and in that instance we made the food--snacks, hors d'oeuvres, finger sandwiches, that kind of thing.) For my cousin we did a Dr. Seuss theme since thats her nursery theme.

I made her a diaper cake:

And a regular cake:

Ours was coed because it was a small group of people, she wanted her dh there and her dad and brother there since her Mom recently passed away, so we decided to include all the guys.. I'd never done a coed shower before but it was really nice and the guys got all into the gift opening too--it was really sweet. We also had my kids there and another guest had her 3 girls there (they were older kids though). I don't personally like shower games but a lot of people think they're fun. Basically anything where you think the Mommy-to-be will have a good time is great!

Oh, I also made favors for everyone--chocolate lollipops in the shape of rattles and diaper pins (like the accent rattles and diaper pin chocolates I made for her cake only bigger) wrapped and tied together with red and white ribbon. I also made little hang tags for them that said "Amanda's Baby Shower June 5, 2010" with a quote from Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who--"A person's a person no matter how small."

No matter what you do I'm sure she'll have a blast!

I'm not American but I'll say the same thing as the other ladies, keep it simple.

For mine, there had finger foods and mainly fruit juices. It was a small group of persons and we had a few shower games (baby bingo, baby belly size estimates with curly ribbon and toilet paper and a few others). Our wasn't co-ed as you put it but DH was at home watching my nieces and nephews. They watched movies inside while the ladies were outside having the shower. He and the kids came out for food when that was being served and then they went back to their movies.

Well, mine wasn't simple lol. I wasn't able to be there, but teleconferenced in. They had it at a restaurant over lunchtime, and had a buffet lunch with salad, sandwiches, vegetables, chips (crisps to you I believe) and a cake. There were centerpieces on every table which consisted of small diaper cakes decorated with ribbon and flowers. They also had some balloons and streamers, and the paper cake plates/napkins were boy-themed. They played several games including baby gift bingo, guess the baby food (in diapers), guess how many toilet paper squares it takes to wrap around the belly, etc. They gave prizes for the winners of each game - lotions, candles, potted plants and other smaller items. Someone should be recording every gift given and who it is from to assist with thank-you notes later.
