personally. Not so great news...she started off by saying how glad she is that she did push to get the X-ray films before prescribing Clomid. Right then my heart started to race because I was scared she found something wrong. I was right. She says "your left tube looks perfectly fine...but your right tube does not. It looks like it had a really hard time (the dye) getting through your right tube, it actually looks very scared and misshapen." Okay now, I dont know if any of you remember, when I had my HSG I came on JM that day and talked about how everything went and I said something didnt look right with my right tube, it took alot longer for the dye to go through, and it looked completely different than the left. So this has me really really worried now. She says she isnt 100% sure, so she is taking my films to a radiology conference at the beginning of July...but it looks like to her that I have had an ectopic pregnancy. Now this theory really has me thinking. Do you guys remember when I ranted awhile ago (in private I think) about how im SO confused that I used to get pregnant so easily, and ever since the last pregnancy it has been 6 months straight with nothing? Her theory is that my last pregnancy was an ectopic and that it damaged my right tube, and that is why we are having way more troubles getting pregnant than we were before. Anytime I would O from my right side, the egg most likely wouldnt get through therefore no chance of getting pregnant.
I am scared to death that we are going to need IVF. She mentioned those three letters to me and I about fell out of my chair. (along with some procedure that CAN help, no guarantees at all though) IVF is the only way to get an embryo exactly where it needs to be. With IUI's & Clomid there is always gonna be a chance I can O from my right side, which would be useless...and also if I did have an ectopic, I am at more of a risk for another now. Did I mention I am scared to death? How am I 23 years old, been TTC for over a year and now it has possibly come to this? We can try on our own this month, but I have no confidence in that working anymore. I cant believe this is my TTC story...these are things I read about when I first came to JM and never thought it would be me, never. Please, girls, cross your fingers, pray, whatever you do that my right tube is okay. I sure have a feeling that it isnt though. One good thing has come from this, thank god I changed RE's because with my old one we'd be doing IUI after IUI and wasting our money.
All I can do is cry...

Wow!!! Ashley, I don't even know what to say!!! How on EARTH could you old RE not pick this up??? Come on!!! It is obvious to me that your old RE was doing nothing more than treating you like another case and another source of money. I've been praying you'll get pregnant soon and fast, but I'm adding the wellness of your right tube to the prayers I've already been saying for you! I'm so mad that you have to deal with this when it should have been and could have been caught sooner than this!!!! UGH!!! I'm so mad right now I could spit nails!!!! How incompetent was your old RE to NOT see this and pick up on it sooner!!!! How could something like this have gotten away from them????

I keep asking myself the same thing. I told my sister (she is my best friend she knows all about whats going on with us) but she has NO CLUE what all of this stuff means, and she even said first "how could your old dr have missed that?" Im just so outraged.

I don't know how this could have been missed. Your new RE didn't even have the films for 24 hours and she picked up right away!!!! Maybe I'm a little off here, but could this bring up a lawsuit against your old RE for misdiagnosis or lack there of?? Because YOU even saw that it was odd and he (was your old RE a man?) didn't even comment on it or even seem to think anything of it! Wow, I'm absolutely floored by the incompetence of the old RE's office! First, they couldn't even send over your files and films in the course of two months and then they couldn't even pick up on something as big as this!!!!

I dont know, im sure he would say it was his "opinion" that everything is okay, ya know? Its not like I had a disease that wasnt caught or something. I even said right THEN AND THERE during the procedure, "Did it look okay, it seemed to take longer on the left side" and he said "Looks great, ill talk to you at your next appointment" so i thought that he would go into detail at my next appointment, but he just said i had a perfect uterus, and that was it!

I'm glad you switched REs and this one seems to be so much more helpful and proactive than the former one. I'm really sorry you are facing this news though. I can totally understand what you mean when you say you didn't think this would be your story. It sucks that you may have to do IVF now. I'm so glad you won't be wasting money on IUIs that wouldn't have worked though! I hope you get some answers soon Ashley.
I didn't know you could have an ectopic and come out of it seemingly okay... I mean it looks like your tube is scarred and possibly not working now, but I always thought with ectopics that you KNEW you had one and usually lost the tube entirely. That's scary that you could have one and not know! and how very frustrating that your old RE would do the HSG and not read it correctly... ugh!

I know of lots of cases where the entire tube wasnt lost. And your guess is just as good as mine on how you could have an ectopic and not know it. I've been googling ever since I got off the phone. I miscarried (as usual) before I could even get an ultrasound, so there would have been no way to know. There's still a chance it wasnt an ectopic pregnancy (and im hoping that it wasnt) and the scarring could be from something else. Just dont know what.

Let's say that your early m/c are due to some genetic issue causing the embryos to stop developing while still very very small. (Likely given the pattern of your losses). And let's say that one of those ended up in your tube and began developing, hit the point at which the others stopped developing, and did the same. It could stretch or scar the tube but not rupture it in that case. Your body can actually reabsorb an ectopic that stops developing.
I am so sorry you've gotten another round of bad news. As you know I am always trying to look on the bright side... and in this case, you do have one tube that you KNOW is open and healthy. A 50/50 chance each month of O'ing on the correct side is still a decent chance. It's not a zero or close to zero chance. Still I know that probably doesn't help much. I just really wish things would finally go right for you guys. Another ectopic would be my greatest worry as well. I am so sorry Ash. My heart just keeps breaking for you.

Thats how the Dr explained it more or less... it could have been just like all the other ones. Just this time it didnt make it to where its supposed to be, like the others did (Again, IF i've had an ectopic that is)
Thanks so much Kyle, your always there for me and always trying to remind me of all the possibilites still and see "the bright side". You dont know how much I appreciate you for that.

The silver lining is that she found a potential issue and you can take measures now to prevent something bad down the road. I know that probably doesn't make you feel any better though Sorry.

Ugh I just typed out this big long thing and Lily deleted it,
That makes sense the way Kyle explained it, and I guess in that situation, with it being ectopic, its kind of good that you would have m/c'd anyway so it didn't turn into something even worse. Ugh, still that's no fun to hear and I just hate this for you, Ashley.
What other things can cause tube scarring? Endo? Although I suspect that would be in both tubes and not just damage the one? I'm so glad you found an RE who gets that this is your life and you aren't just another 'case.'

Oh Ash, I'm so sorry honey. But as Kyle has said - you still have one healthy, perfect tube. I'm so glad you swapped RE's. This one sounds so much more onto it.

I'm glad you switched doctors because your last one sure was an idiot if he missed this. I feel so bad that you keep getting all this bad news. At least your new doc seems to be on top of things for you. I have a hard time following all the different things with IUI and IVF. IVF is the most expenisve one, right? Are there grants or something to help you out in your area? Like Sam used? I hope it doesn't come down to that but in the end I just hope you get pregnant fast.
