Wants to cloth diaper From what I can tell, the AIOs one size fits all from BumGenius look the best to me. It's the closest to disposable diapers but I can still save money. Am I right or totally wrong?! I really only want enough to get me through 2 days without having to do laundry so WDYT, 12 diapers? OMG, I know nothing about this LoL. It says I'll need a dry pail. Do I need a wet one too? Ok, someone educate me on AIOs!!!

AIOs are nice cause they are closest to sposies, they are more money though. 12 diapers may get you through 1-1.5days with Rylie but not a new baby. Even Kieran goes through around 8 a day. Typical stash to get through 2days is 20diapers

OS diapers also won't fit a newborn, they generally don't start fitting till around 10lbs.
You need a dry pail, not a wet one. Since AIO's are all sewen together putting them in a wet pail can cause them to mold fast since it would soak up the water and then sit there with it on them till you wash them.

OMGosh Lisa, when I saw the title and then hovered over and saw the first 5 words, I literally jumped out of my chair and did a happy dance!!!

Okay, I'm better!!! When I started cloth diapering...I bought the cheapest there was....the Kushies....they SUCK!!! (Well, the infant size do...however, I LOVE the newborn size...go figure!) Now, the BG AIOs that are one size are organic...and while I've been DYING to try them...they're too pricey for me!!!

As far as pails go...I don't have a wet pail. I don't even use a pail liner. I simply have a cheap medium sized trash can with a lid from Walmart (actually I have two, one doesn't have a lid) and I just scrub it out really good when I empty my diapers into the washing machine! And you don't really need a diaper sprayer, the shower head works just as good....my shower head reaches to the toilet and I just spray everything off into the toilet.

I wash diapers every two days....and I have over 175 diapers....including prefolds and covers!!! With Preston, I had 6 prefolds and 15 Kushies AIOs and because of the bf poo, I had to do diapers EVERY DAY!!!! The only REAL complaint I have against Kushies (and I know Heather with second this on any diaper) is it doesn't have the leg guessts! I don't know much about AIOs because the BG AIOs I have, I dispise with a passion and I'm a HUGE fan of prefolds and covers! BUT let me just say this-once you start buying cloth diapers...it sucks you in like drugs to a drug-addict or alcohol to and alcoholic!!!! I'm truely addicted to cloth diapers....I'll buy them just to touch them!!! .....No lie!

Thanks Justine

Brandi I wubbers you LoL!!! So Andy has been SOOO against cloth diapering it's not even funny. I just texted him about this and he seems ok with it, OMG! I told him that instead of spending over 2000 a year on sposies we could be using cloth diapers called AIOs that fit all sizes and be done buying diapers for good and it's better for Seth's bum and he said it was cool and that he wanted to check it out with me tonight. EEEEEP

Taylor's pretty much potty trained so I don't need to worry about her. Rylie I'll probably just use disposables since she has less than a year left, I dunno. Seth would have a fluffy bum! I just realized that with the 2 in diapers I was spending probably 3500-4000 a year in diapers I never figured it out before! So, is potty training harder since they're used to going in cloth??

What I have done is built a one size stash of flips for Dustin which will be used for new baby as well. We'll start new baby in newborn cds first though.

I think you should do the same! Stick Rylie in CDs. Ones that are one size that can work for Seth later on.... you'll get your money's worth outta them that way for sure!

I would say no. Edward was 3 when I "forced" him to potty train. He showed some interest, but by the time Preston came along, I wanted to only deal with one in diapers!

Preston just turned 2 and he's already telling us when he needs to go. He'll sit on the potty, but he won't do anything...yet. As soon as we put a diaper on him...he goes! But Preston is already a year ahead of Edward in potty training!!!

Thanks girls!

Ok, so the AIOs from bumGenius. I see there's the 3.0 version and there's an organic version. Which is better? I want to feel smart when Andy gets home

I would say the organic...the fabric is better for the booty () and I hear they are more absorbent and they don't take as long to dry as the 3.0. I have the 3.0 in Large and HATE THEM!!! With an undying passion!

Thank you! I was leaning toward the organic ones because I liked the snaps LoL! So what is involved..
1. Baby pees in diaper
2. Put diaper in pan until ready to be washed
3.Wash
4.Dry

Done?!?!

Theres a difference in the 3.0's and the orgainic. The 3.0's are not AIO's they are pocket diapers the Organic's are AIO's but more spendy as I'm sure you'll see. We have quite a few of the 3.0-'s and I prefer them to AIO's though the 1 organic I have is nice and soft. But I like pockets cause #1 they dry faster, #2 you controll the absorbency by how much you stuff in it.

Here is a copy of the e-mail I made for a friend...

AIO - All in one. This is the closest to a disposable. It has the absorbency layers, plus that PUL (Waterproof barrier). One time use. Put it on, take it off and wash. Repeat!

This is one brand example of an AIO style. This is also organic. BGs are the most popular brand I would say.
bumGenius Organic One-Size All-In-One - Cloth Diapers - Cotton Babies Cloth Diaper Store

AI2 - All in two. This is a separate cover with a removable absorbent layer (called an insert). The cover can be wiped out and re used and a new insert is used. Some rotate 2 covers. Letting the other one air dry.

An example of a new product called the Flip, it has an organic insert option, a stay dry (microfiber) option, and a disposable option.
Flip One-Size Diaper System - Cotton Babies Cloth Diaper Store

Another example is the G Diaper which can be found in some local stores. I've used these but don't recommend them. You can use cloth or disposable.
gDiapers - Earth friendly diapers, the new diaper hybrid.

Pockets - These are similar to an AIO in that they are one time use. You stuff the pocket with an insert. This can be nice cause you can stuff more depending on child and day/night. They usually have a layer that wicks the moisture away from baby.

An example
#1 Best Selling bumGenius 3.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper - Cloth Diapers - Cotton Babies Cloth Diaper Store

Then there are prefolds and covers. The cheapest option by far.
Chinese Prefold Cloth Diapers - Cloth Diapers - Cotton Babies Cloth Diaper Store

The prefold can be snappied (a safer version of pins) or trifolded into a cover. They need a cover or they are not water proof.

Cover example
Bummis Super Brite - Diaper Covers - Cotton Babies Cloth Diaper Store

A similar system is a fitted with a cover. A fitted diaper is all absorbency with no waterproof layer, hence the cover.

Pretty much!!! If it's got poo in it...I just swish it around in the toilet. I bought a pair of those cleaning gloves from the dollar store for this purpose. That way, you're hands aren't in the yuck. And then I just wash my hands with the gloves on as I would without them.

It's really hard to say, because some One Size diapers are just a bit big on a newborn. I have some one size pockets....and even in the smallest setting they look too big for a newborn!

So would I just use sposies for a newborn if the AIOs don't work? They don't work for newborns?

One size are big for a new born. You could do sposies, or Lil Joeys (they are a snapping AIO), or prefolds and covers (not an AIO but a cheap way to CD a newborn!)

Oh I think there are small's in the BG's as well that you could do.

Depends, are you CDing for convenience reasons, or money? AIOs are expensive but convenient, prefolds and covers are cheap but not as "easy" as an AIO (although they aren't that difficult.... I haven't used them but MANY do!)

Well I want the bumGenius AIOs but it has the sizes sm, med, large but they're one size fits all.. I don't get it LoL

Ohhh I was wrong. The one size fits all organic one doesn't do that, I was reading the 3.0 one. So confusing LoL!
