Has anyone had one? Any thoughts? I'm thinking about getting it in SOON. I'll be out of the military in a couple weeks and I need to get it put in before then (I hear they are expensive on the outside).

If you had it, did you like it? Did you have any fertility problems once it was out?

I had the mirena (plastic one) and I had no infertility problems after getting it taken out. I have heard that your periods tend to be more heavier and spotting is VERY common between periods, as well as cramps being worse with the paraguard. Im getting the mirena again because I loved not having a period for 2+ years!!

So with the mirena you don't have a period at all?? I already have painful periods, so maybe the copper one isn't a good idea. More confused now.

That was the one I was thinking of using post 2nd baby. There is a 12% chance that your periods will get WORSE But really *I* think its the safest longterm BC out there!

The mirena has progesterone in it that thins out the walls of your uterus, so it slows down ovulation, hence no period. I never had intense cramps or unusual spotting on it *just random brown blood once in a while but thats to be expected!*

The copper IUD just scares me honestly because my periods are bad as it is, I dont want them worse!! Plus the mirena is BFing friendly!

I've had both. Mierana was ok, it caused me to gain weight and had maybe 2-3 AF's the entire time it was in and when it was removed in May 2008 I only had removal bleeding no AF it was well over 90CD days close to 100 when I found out I was pregnant w/ Kieran (about 5weeks along)

The Paragard, the copper one I will never never get again(actually I can't get any IUD's again) I got a uterine infection, they can't be 100% sure if the Paragard caused it or if it was never caught after my c/s, but it was part of the reason I had so many issues(and the problems I'm having now we aren't sure why)

Paragard is "more" BF friendly since theres no hormones in it

Research IUD's before you get it.. I had the Mirena and I wished I did more research before I had it put in.. I learned that the Mirena thins out the uterus lining.. So, an egg can get fertilized but just can't implant, it just pass right through.. That really bothered me. I look at it as an abortion, but you just don't know about it.. I had it removed a few weeks later.. And if you do get pregnant, there's a huge risk of miscarriage if the IUD stays in or if it comes out. It also made me PMS 24/7.. It was a vary expensive change too.. cost me $300 (That's with my insurance covering 80% of the costs ) to put in and $40 to take out..

Oh.. I have heavy periods.. I had the Mirena for 6 months and had no period.. I did have cramping and severe mood changes..

Here's a link of people talking about mirena Mirena IUD considered abortion? - The Debate Team - BabyCenter

Good luck when you get out of the service.. I got out of the Navy in 2006 and have been enjoying the civilian life since.. Never looked back.. hehe
