I just found out that even if I have a home birth, I can still transfer to a birth centre afterwards and stay for 4-5 days! It's the best birth centre in the country (actually, it's were I was born), but as it's 1.5 hours drive away, soneither DF or myself are very happy about trying to give birth there.

If all goes well with this pregnancy, we'll go check the place out in a few months.

The one thing I was concerned about post-birth was the support I'd get with breastfeeding etc, so this could be the perfect solution. Although DF thinks the baby will be too 'small' to transfer to a birth centre after the birth He's so cute!

Man, if I had a home birth I would not want to go any where... I would just lay in bed for days. I hate trucking back home after giving birth although I always would rather be at home after then at a hospital/center.

Is there no help that can come to you? or call you or something? Or someone or business that you can call on in case you have questions?

I'm happy there's a centre not too far that you can get support if you need. Like Steph though, I wouldn't like the driving back and forth but you have to work with what you have.

Ditto!

But it sounds like it could be a good option for you to get the post natal support you really want!

awesome! it'll be nice to be taken care of at a birth centre and neither of you having to worry about cooking, cleaning etc. and having that support right there with you. another option could be a doula, i think they help with BF and baby as well they will cook/clean if u need them too i believe. just a thought!

When would you go to the center? I wouldn't want to sit in a car for 1.5 hours after giving birth haha. My suggestion is LOTS of pain meds lol.

I would try to see if someone can come to you instead! I would just want to lay on my bed for days and not move! EXACTLY what I did after I came home from my csection, we even moved my bed downstairs so I could still be active with life!

Hmmm... so the general idea seems to be that if I have a home birth, I should just stay home after?

We'll check out each location available to us, then make up our mind closer to the time!

I had an hour and 45 minute trip home from the birth center (about 10 hours after giving birth) and it was fine for me. I wasn't in any pain or anything. But had I been able to have her at home there's no way you would have gotten me to go anywhere for a few days! lol
