I need tips/tricks/hints something. J.J STILL does not hold his own bottle and he's gonna be 1 in less than a month! He will hold a sippy cup (he can't figure out he needs to tip it back) but refuses to hold a bottle. He uses his hands to pull on his ears when he is drinking (i guess its his comfort thing) so he will not hold a bottle. Even if i try and make his hands do it, he just won't do it. This was the same kid who when he was 10 weeks old, he was completely into holding his own bottle and did for about a month.
Anyone?
As for when I plan on weaning him from a bottle, it's gonna be when he can figure out how to tip back a sippy cup lol.

No help on the holding the bottle but if he gets that he has to hold the cup (but doesn't tip it) how about go to a straw cup?

I wish I had some advice. I bet he looks cute tugging at his little ears ! Landen could not figure out how to tip a cup either so I switched to straws!

I 2nd angela, go for a straw cup. He will learn eventually. I had to lay Morgan down to teach her how it came out then she figured it out. Soon you'll have a problem with him tipping EVERY cup back including those without lids

I tried the straw cup and he just threw it on the ground. Our most successful sippy cups are nuks and the crappy disposable ones.

Neither of my kids would ever hold their own bottle. It didn't bother me much, I liked the cuddle time.
I weaned both my kids off bottles at age one. They hadn't figured out the sippy cup yet but when it was their only choice, they learned quick!

Ditto to Kate! If you make the sippy his only option - he will quickly learn how to get stuff out of it very quickly....babies are resourceful like that. Nora is off the bottle (except for an occasional night bottle if its been a long day) and quickly learned how to work all and any cups I would give her. I'm a toughie though...I just stopped holding it for them!!!!

I say if he's holding on to the sippy himself, ditch the bottles now - he'll quickly figure out how to tip it. Ben was the same way, it took him a little bit to figure out the whole sippy cup thing, I had to "help" him tip it a few times, but once he got the hang of it, he was an old pro! Good luck!!

Matthew has never gotten good at tipping his sippy to get milk out, like he'll do it here and there but not really. I had tried a straw cup before but recently tried again and he took to it this time. Btw, he won't use the straw cups that are made to where they have to bite down and suck (I think it's Nuby brand) just the ones that work like a regular straw. I just got him Playtex brand and they work well. They say 24 months + on the package, but I know babies younger that Matthew that use them!

The almost 1 yr old boy I watch won't hold his own bottle at all either. I try to get him to hold it while I'm holding him in my lap and he has no interest.

Those straw sippy cups are better for their teeth anyway, so you can easily just use those. Kylie is 6 months old and if I put her bottle next to her she will pick it up and drink out of it, but it's only if she's REALLY impatient to eat. Otherwise she will cry until I hold it for her.
