So, I'm not sure if you remember, but my friend suffered a terrible fall that was nearly fatal a few months ago. She has been steadily improving, but because of her condition very few people have been allowed to see her. My DH was one of those people and so he has been going to see her almost every week. She is basically like a baby - trying to learn about people, the world, her body, language, movement etc all from scratch. She can sometimes write, type or mimic (like if she sees a word on TV she will write it over and over), she can sometimes communicate with a lot of effort, but gets distracted or falls alseep easily. Anyways i'm going to see her for the first time tomorrow, and the nurses told our other friend who has been going to see her that her family has been told she doesnt need to be in a diaper and gown anymore and to bring her some clothes but they just dont. So me and SIL (it's her friend too) have put together a little care package with lots of clothes (pants, and short/long sleeve tops, hoodies), a cute pink ball cap, sandals and running shoes, as well i found a pot of face powder that was barely used and added a spare brush that i had and put it in a little makeup case. I want to add a nice chapstick to the makeup case too, she can't really have much makeup (only what you'd give to a toddler) but i am hoping that the powder and chapstick will be ok and something she might like. We plan to pick her up some new undies on the way to go see her, and i dont really wear shorts at all so i didnt have any to give. But can you think of anything else that i could put in the care package?

good lotion and deodorant (the hospitals usually suck). I would skip the sandals unless she is a good walker because they could trip her up. Make sure the pants are easy for someone else to put on and have enough room for a catheter bag to fit through the leg or worn on the leg (if she has one).

I bet she would like some stuff to do. Not sure where she is at with regaining skills...but something like the paint by number things might be good for her. They have them with markers instead of paint, but same concept. This can help her relearn colors, numbers, and fine motor skills.

Some deodorant and nice smelling bath washes and lotions are nice things too...hospitals rarly have anything that smells decent. And not all places have real deodorant.

She may like a dry erase board too.

When I first read it, I thought about art/craft supplies as well. I'm not sure what else to suggest.

yeah arts and crafts, anything with texture and colors that she can feel and learn. This is a toughy but pretty much anything you'd give a toddler should be fine?

what about shape sorters, large string beads sets....things that would help with her therapy. I'm thinking back to Brayden's early OT days at a 2/3yr old there. And also training tootherpaste if she doesn't swallow or toddler toothpaste, a nice toothbrush, hair brush or ponytail holders, what about nail polish? or OHHHH large picture books with lots of photos....like a word book. My first word book, or something like that that has pics of balls with the word ball, etc. Not sure how much she needs in terms of that stuff, but if she has to relearn a lot that could be useful.
