Last night, I started contracting... a lot. I ended up waking many times during the night. I went to see my doctor in the morning, and she felt my belly, and could tell i was contracting. She checked my cervix, and said i was closed, but that my cervix was shortening. She told me she was pulling me permanently from work, and She sent me immediately to the hospital.
I got to L&D, get in my gown and climb up on the gurney. It's about 10 minutes to 11. Around 11:45 a nurse walks by and says, "Your nurse hasn't set you up yet??? I'll get you started." She hooks me up to the monitor, draws some blood and disappears. She made it clear that she was not MY nurse, but was just being HELPFUL.
And it went further downhill from there. At 12:30 gaggle of residents come in and say they want to check my cervix. I tell them i was just checked at the doctor's office. They say they want to again to get a swab to check for infection. I let them. And while my vag is just hanging out in the wind, 3 more residents whip the curtain back and then enter. They tell me my doctor wants me to go down to antenatal testing for an indepth ultrasound and a better look at my cervix.
I am left alone again. I never meet "my nurse". Around 2, a nurse comes in to replace the monitor. She is just covering while "my nurse" is at lunch. I ask about the ultrasound and she says she'll investigate. I am left alone again.
At 4 I start to get really pissed off. I start saying "excuse me" to every pair of feet i see walk by. No one listens and they keep walking. I have a preggo moment at 4:30 and start crying. I call matt and tell him to come NOW. (i previously told him to stay at work) My mom calls to check on me, and the gasket is blown! I start hysterically crying into the phone about how no one will talk to me or tell me whats going on. I hear a phone ring, and someone says "Dr.*** wants an update on bed B!" (I am bed B) 3 nurses say "She's not my patient, I don't know her!" I wanted to scream "Give the phone to me, i'll give her an update about how you treat patients in this unit!!" At this point, they had heard my tirade to my mother, and suddenly i have a disgruntled nurse. She was not appologetic at all. Then a different gaggle of residents is back. Turns out, because no one took responsibility of my care. My ordered tests were never scheduled. Everyone just assumed that "my nurse" had done it. Of course as we know... I have no nurse. Of course now it's the end of the day and can't fit me in.
At 5 they try to smooth things over. They tell me they are doing a bedside ultrasound... which told me nothing. The residents knew nothing about me. Looked at my tracing, said i was fine and could go home. I asked about returning to work and they said yeah, you aren't contracting, you can work. I says yes i was contracting. They disagree and say my strip doesn't show anything. I take the chance and run out of there. I plan on talking only to my doctor. It was ****** rediculous!!! I contract all the way home. (they've calmed down now)
I just don't understand it. I left it more puzzled and furiuos than when I went in!
I can't wait to get ahold of my doctor!!

Oh Alice how horrible! I can't believe they treated you that way! I would definitely be having a nice loooonnnngggg talk with your dr. about everything that they put you through. I'm glad your contractions have calmed down now and I'm glad your dr. has pulled you off work. I think your job has been too stressful for you as of late and you really need to just chill, relax, and keep baking that little boy of yours. I think without the unneeded stress you may find your contractions aren't as bad either. I know mine always got way worse when I was upset or really stressed out about something. Huge HUGS to you!

Oh you poor thing! I'm so sorry they treated you like that. Way to go for stressing a soon-to-be mummy out even more than she already was.

OMG you poor thing. I would have thrown a fit. That is no way to treat any patient. I am so sorry you went through that. KUP on what your Dr. says when you talk to her!

omg that is SO brutal, i would have been screaming at every pair of feet i saw too. In fact i'd probably just be screaming in general, i can't believe they would treat you like that. i hope you can get a hold of your doctor soon, and i'd avoid work until you do since you were originally advised not to. i wish i could give u a big big hug!

Alice, I am so sorry you were treated like that! I would have been LIVID as well! Just a suggestion- have you considered filing a complaint? I know that it sucks, but it may be the only way to keep them from treating patients that way.
*HUGS* girl!
