So, good or bad first?
Let's start with the good.
I HAVE A WALKER!!!!!
It just clicked the last 2 days! He just up and started walking and walked all day at day care and all night tonight!!!
My little baby is a toddler now
Not only that,
HE IS THE MASTER OF THE SIPPY CUP!
When there is juice in it lol. He just all of a sudden got it. He drinks juice (watered down) from a sippy now! We are trying to see if he will take formula from it too.
And now... the bad.
So we saw the ENT today for his 2 month recheck. If you recall, we had started him on Axid but he was allergic. The ENT agrees there must be some kind of preservative in it that he is allergic to. He's been on Zantac the last month and honestly, we noticed no change. She said now that he is 1, she is comfortable with starting him on Prevacid, so we are moving to that.
As for his ears, since we are now averaging 1 ear infection a month he is more then a candidate for tubes. Since we are hesitant into jumping to the tubes options, the first thing she wants us to do is get a head x-ray to evaluate his adenoids. If they are large, then that is the whole problem right there, and those need to come out. If they are not large, then we are most likely going to have to go the tube route. I know people LOVE them, but DH has hearing problems because the tubes scared his ear drums badly as a kid and he had all sorts of speech and learning problems. So we are a bit hesitant for that very reason.
J.J also has to get a comprehensive hearing exam. We know he can hear us (although he has already developed the typical male "selective hearing"), the ENT wants to make sure that he can hear within a normal limit for his age and that we know everything is ok. Considering he knows A LOT of words for an 11 month old, we don't think this is an issue.
AND
J.J is going to be seeing a pediatric allergist. Which i have been pushing his ped for for awhile now but she didn't think it was necessary. The ENT believes he has some sort of food or dairy allergy or other unknown allergy that is causing all his congestion. We have been trying to switch him off his formula, but we can't because every time we do, he gets congested which leads to an ear infection. We've tried Soy Milk and Lactaid Whole Milk and both have been a problem. We we're going to originally do rice milk, but with his weight only in the 40th percentile now and dropping still (from 75th), he needs a milk source with fat in it. So, its off to the allergist too.
My 11.5 month old sees more doctors than I do
That's all :-)

my little sis has the tubes and hers just keep falling out but they can only replace them so many times because the scar tissue can build up. i think its great to try an alternative route before doing the tubes because if he ended up not needing themthat would be wonderful. sounds like despite his medical issues he is doing well and that's so crazy that he is TODDLE-ING!!! didnt u just have him!? omg time really flies!

Cheers to him walking and mastering his sippy cup.
I'm sorry there are no better options for the ear infections.
I hope the allergist will be able to find out what's causing the constant congestion.

Well good news! He gets to see the allergist at the end of this month. I was expecting to have to wait until September or something, but this is just awesome! He is gonna have to get skin testing I had it done myself, so I don't know how they are gonna test him.
My main hope is that he is not allergic to dogs or cats. We honestly think its more of a general food issue though.

He's getting to be such a big boy! You must be so proud of him mastering the walk and the sippy cup all at the same time.
I'm wondering if maybe the ear tube technique has changed at all since your DH was little, possibly making it safer? I know nothing about ear tubes.

I hope you get answers soon..
Your situation sounds similar to my son.. Does he have congestion in his chest or is it nasal congestion? My son had constant congestion in his chest, which was linked to his Asthma.
Can you let me know how the Allergists appointment goes? I need to take my son to one but I want to wait until he's 1 years old.. I'm nervous on what to expect.. Luckily, we already ruled out food allergies on my son.. Just need to know what is causing his eczema and what's triggering his asthma..
And I hear you on the ear infections.. My guy had 4 ear infections in one month.. But that month was when he was really sick and was hospitalized for Broncholitis. I was worried about getting tubes, but by the grace of God, we haven't had a ear infection since then..

I hope they can figure it all out.
And yay for walking!
Seamus had his tonsils and adenoids out just after he turned 2 cause they were almost blocking his throat. We didn't need an x-ray cause the ENT could see them when he opened his mouth. He had bad sleep apena, snoring almost as loud as dh(who also has sleep apena).
I know what you mean about your child seeing more doctors. Seamus has a ton of specialists and therapists (PSR, counseling, Speech, soon OT for his sensory issues, and his eye specialists)

He is actually NOT a giant anymore! Ok well, he is still 95% for height, but, he has been wearing 12 month clothes for like 4 months now. It is the longest we have been in 1 size! He is a little over 31 inches now and 23 pounds (according to my tape measure and scale.) He is still around 40% for weight and holding steady there. I really thought he would be in 18m shorts by the end of the summer and well -- he is still in 12 month shorts and THEY are LOOSE on his waist! He is in a lot of 18M shirts though -- hes got a belly lol.
Justine -- when the ENT used the scope to look down his throat the first time we went, she looked up to check them but could not see them which is why she is ordering the x-ray now. She said either they are too small (which would be fine) or so big that its blocking an appropriate view. J.J sees the ped, ENT, allergist & chiropractor. (We still take him... it really does help him and us -- he has been ear infection free since we stopped trying to switch him off formula and taking him to the chiropractor).
We see the allergist in 8 days. I think since I don't think he will cooperate with skin testing that they are gonna blood test (RAST Test) him instead. Although its not always as accurate. *sigh* I could barely sit still for the skin test so I don't know how he is going to. I just wanted to itch my arm off in some spots (the things i was allergic to. Especially the bermuda grass one!)
He still refuses formula out of a sippy cup though. I tried yesterday cause he was drinking juice so well from it, he takes a sip and goes PPPPFFFFFTTTTTTT all over the place and starts hitting his tongue LOL and making faces. It was cute. Once i gave him the juice back he was fine haha.
J.J is scheduled for his hearing exam the first Tuesday in August. Just a hearing test and tympanogram. Then its back to the ENT in another 3 weeks to discuss all his results and figure out a plan of action.
Oh and we switched off prevacid and onto prilosec instead. The prevacid was not agreeing with his stomach and making him not want to eat (this was before the coxsackie started). So we are now on GERD medicine 4. If this too upsets his tummy we are just going back to Zantac and doing the max dose.
Pictures ehh? Can you wait till tomorrow for beach pictures and Saturday for party pictures?
No?
Well until then I leave you with a crappy phone picture of J.J from yesterday:
