thoughts and prayers please. My cousin had her c-section this morning (she was due the 6th and baby was breech) and little Rocky was born with a lot of fluid in his lungs. He was actually born not breathing but they got him to come around quickly. He's doing well but still in the NICU. They hope to get him back sometime tonight but that all depends on how well he does with his feeds and getting him off the IV and everything else. She's been pumping her colostrum for him so he's been getting that. She's only seen pictures of him though. She saw him for a quick second when they delivered him and they wheeled her into the NICU after they were done but she couldn't see him, just his foot. She hasn't been able to touch him and neither of them have been able to hold him yet. It's really taking its toll as she just desperately wants her baby back. I got to see him in the NICU and he's just gorgeous and seems to be doing well. Please keep them in your thoughts that he improves quickly and they get him out of there tonight! She's not allowed in a wheel chair to go see him til 8pm. He was born weighing 8lbs 1oz and 20.5 inches long and such a cutie!!!

I know! He was born at 8 this morning and I guess they want her to stay in bed for 12 hours before she can get up. They won't let her dh feed him either, the nurse actually gave us the bum's rush when she wanted to feed him. Emotionally she's not holding up right now, I just hope she gets him in her room soon!

That is ridiculous. They won't let a father feed his own child?! I would be throwing an absolute fit!

I hope he gets to go be with his mommy soon!

T&Ps. I hope everything works out and she gets to see him soon.

I know that nurses have their jobs to do but I often wish they would be a bit more understanding and sympathetic to us parents.

Poor thing! That time apart has to be torture! Praying he's healthy enough to be back with mom soon!

Is that separation normal for that kind of situation? I would be throwing a fit too. Wishing them all the best.

Thanks everyone! Rocky is out of the NICU now!!! That 24 hours without him was torture I'm sure! I really think the hospital could have handled the situation better--they had no empathy or compassion and tht made it so much harder.

I mean just a simple thing like her dh didn't get a picture of him being weighed the first time and asked if they could just put him on the scale really quick so he could get the shot and they said no, he won't weigh the same. I mean, really? It would have taken 2 seconds! They just seemed really put off and wouldn't answer questions--her dh had to ask the same thing 3 different times when I was back there because she kept being vague and like it was just a huge bother to be explaining things.

And, its a little thing but they put his first name in quotes. All the other babies in there had their names written out normally and his was LASTNAME, "ROCKY" like it wasn't really his name. I think any little thing was going to tick us off though.

Im so glad to hear he is out of the NICU now! Wow, I cannot believe the way the hospital staff acted! How rude of them to put his first name in quotes like that!

I'm glad he is out! Hopefully they can go home soon and be done with that hospital. I don't see why it hurts them to have a little compassion, you know? They don't have to act like that. I'm just comparing it to my experience at the hospital... granted, Charlotte didn't go to the NICU, but still, it is like night and day.
