Would you name your baby something you didn't like, just to honor someone in the family (middle name, not first name)?

I'd love to name my baby boy after my Dad, but Dad's name is kinda old fashion and not really to my taste... I haven't run this past DF yet, so he might not like it himself!!

We will be using middle names that aren't our style, but they are slowly growing on me, since we have had them picked out for a while already and still have even longer for them to grow on me.

Yes.

My DD's name is my grandma's first name and my mom and I's middle name. To be perfectly honest, I questioned if I really wanted to name her that, but felt like if I didn't, I would be letting people down. The moment I saw her, though, she was Lorena Ann. Nothing else could ever have fit her, and now I LOVE her name.

If we have a boy, he will be named Vincent Robert, which is DH's grandpa's name reversed. I hated it at first, and still am not fond of the name Robert, but I love the idea that it is a family name and it has really grown on me.

No I wouldn't. I think I would rather go with a name I liked, although I love that our boys names have alot of meaning, I also love that I love them!

I'm no help lol. We're naming our son Theodore!

At the same time. Our "family" name on my side is Elmo. Do you think we'll be using it? I think not.

But i don't think its a bad thing to use a family name. I think older names sound very distinguished. See how it sounds with your chosen first time.

I was not crazy about my son having such a generic name, but i really wanted to name him after my cousin. So I did.

If we have a girl her middle name will be after DH's mom and I am not crazy about it at all.

We need to love the name we pick. I wanted Theo for a boy, because I like it and in honor of my grandfather, but Chris doesn't like it so it's off the table (he kind of agreed to use it for a middle name though, so we'll see if it grows on him).

i prefer established names, rather than the newer types so using 'meaningful' names is fine with me!

Yup, I've done it twice. I don't like Liam or Lila's middle names but they're after dh's grandparents who are deceased. His grandma (Agnes) in particular he was very close to, I met her a few times and she was a great lady so while I don't like the name I like that we chose to honor her. His grandpa (Edward) he never met but was special to his dad and is also his dad's middle name, and its not too bad just not a name I'd choose. And if we have another girl someday her middle name (Mildred) will be after my Mom's Mom (she died when my Mom was 6). Again not a name I care for but I would love to honor her and so would my Mom.

Lochy shares dh's middle name (Erik) and I actually like it but his is the only one! And if we ever have another boy the middle name will be after my Dad (John) and I like his name so that'll be ok to.

The middle name rarely gets used anyway so it wasn't a huge deal to have a name I didn't "love" in that spot. I'd rather honor someone we love instead.

Yes, I would/did/will. Oliver has my grandfather's first name as his middle (Wilhelm). I do like it. If we have a girl the middle name will be Hanni after my deceased grandmother. I'm not crazy about it but she was special to me.

If the name meant a lot to me or DH, even though I may not like the style, I would consider it. However, I chose names based on meaning so if it did not have a meaning that I liked that worked well with the other names then I wouldn't use it.

No, I don't think I would. Luckily I like our family name (J) and was able to combine it with my dad's name to make Charlotte's middle name, Jaelynn, which I love and have been planning on using since way before she was born.

We are using family names for the middle names. Luckily we have some family names that we really like. I wouldn't pick something I specifically disliked though.

I would! If I ever have a girl her middle name will be Nicole. I don't hate the name but its not at all my favorite name. Landen's middle name is Christopher after my dad!

Mia has my middle name and I hope when shes older she will pass it on if she ever has kids.
If we have another girl their name will be Ami Ann, Ann is both Dh's and my mums middle name. If we have a boy their name will be Harry Robert, Robert after DH's deceased uncle.

No, I don't think I would. I would rather chose something we love and hope that our child will also love it. Especially since the kid is the one who is going to have to live with it for the rest of his/her life.

We are using Louise as the middle name after my grandmother.. Its not a name I would normally use but we like the idea of having a family name as the middle name and plan to do that with all of our children!!

Sigh, yes. If this baby is a boy he'll have a name I'm not particularly wild about just for tradition's sake. I've tried to get my husband and MIL to compromise a bit but you just don't mess with Southerners and their traditions!

Edward (DH's name) is a HUGE family name. I like honoring family, after all Henry's first name is after my grandmother. But I didn't want our son to have the same name as his father. So that's why his middle name is Edison. It honored the Edward name but it is different enough. And now, most people think it's kinda funny (son of Ed).
