What are/were your symptoms. How did you treat? and any side effects or results?

Here's all my stuff, but just so you know each case of PCOS can be very different

Ovarian Cysts, found when I was 15 after doubling over in pain one day.

Irregular bleeding that starts and stops intermittently
i either have that or no AF for months at a time

Seamus is only here cause ovulation was forced by my OB after my m/c in 2005. I stopped having AF after the bleeding from the m/c stopped, and he wanted me to have 1 more af before letting me back on b/c and dh and I didnt' think and ended up preggers with Seamus. Kieran I have no clue how we got pregnant with her as I had just been to the doctors weeks before the BFP and they told me I'd need ovulation forced again. The first baby that I m/c I got pregnant with the month i came off b/c so my body had been in that cycle.

I have horrid adult acne, bad bad bad

Excess facial or body hair, especially upper lip, chin, neck, chest and/or abdomen...yes I have to shave my chin and neck and belly

Skin tags, everywhere...neck, breasts, back, ears, found one down below once...

Dark or discolored patches of skin on your neck, groin, under arms or in skin folds....My armpits always look dirty even though I scrub them always(mom always has to remark on this )

Excess weight and its centered around your middle...My legs, hips and arms don't show much weight gain its all in my belly

Other things that they think could be related to PCOS
~Severe migraines a couple times a month
~Gestational Diabetes when pregnant
~I have severe anxiety problems(like I'm gonna die if I drive at night and everyone is out to get me)

I've had a few doc's say that its 100% PCOS, there is no 1 test to say yes you have it. They can test a few different things. I'm supposed to go in for a testosterone check and a chlorestoeral(sp) check too soon. I know they can put you on a med that starts with an M...to help with insulin issues thats what we may be doing soon here.

For me..
Its the very far and inbetween Af's.
Easy weight gain
exess body hair
I even have discolour patches under my arms

Mia is also only here because I was on BCP and wasnt taking it correctly. I didnt know I had PCOS till i came off the BCP to TTC#2

I am currently taking Metformin to help with my weight loss.

Ok I have:

No ovulation or rather really messed up periods since 2008. Feb-apr 2008 I had a period every 14 days that would last 10 days each. May I think I skipped, June I bled the whole month, July skipped with a bfp and family doc confirmed pg but had a neg blood test so i'm thinking family doc was wrong., August started on time with loads of pain like horrible HORRIBLE pain, Sept 08 normal, oct 08 just spotted, nothing til dec 8th 08 and I bled until mid feb 2009 and went to ER for excessive bleeding. Normal from March-July when I got a bfp July 12, methotrexate on Aug 7, miscarriage on Aug 11, normal af september-december. January came 1 week early, nothing in feb, nothing in march, provera induced in late march, may came a week early and nothing since May.

sudden weight gain----30-40 pounds in a year's time and the only diet change I've had was eating better. and its every where

High blood pressure that came on sudden. It was fine 2-3 years ago and now it's 160/132 with out meds.

The regular endocrinologist said hair growth at my age (wow make me feel old why don't ya) was normal in that I wax my lip ever 3-4weeks. Hair on my chiny chin chin he said was normal after child birth and is plucked only----like 8 or 10 spaced so that no one could even see kwim?

No darkened skin or anything and no skin tags.

No energy, at all. and I get pretty darn moody.

Here are mine (dx when I was 15)!

Weight gain (mostly around my middle)
irregular (mostly non existent) periods
sharp shooting pains in my lower abdomen (sending me to the ER)
bloodwork shows abnormal ratio of LH/FSH (mine is 3:1, should be more like 1:1)
excess body and facial hair (chin, chest and upper lip)
lack of energy (also may be my Fibromyalgia)
Infertility

and finally..
U/S confirms many many little follies on my ovaries

I dont have

high blood pressure
dark patches
acne
glucose intolerance

Treatment:
My first OB/Gyn (when I was 15) put me on birth control which my OB/Gyn now tells me prob made me worse because my hormones were already messed up. Those "regulated" my cycles while I was on them.. did nothing for me once I stopped taking them.

Right now Im working on diet and exercise to help with the weight loss (which has started bringing AF around on her own!!)

When we were TTC we tried a few rounds of Clomid which did nothing, then we moved on to Clomid and Ovidrel, got pregnant the 1st cycle with that but lost the baby at 4w5d. When we are ready to try again in 2 years, we will be going straight to Clomid and Ovidrel.

We havent "explored" the Metformin route for me because my dr isnt sure it will help me (not saying it doesnt help others, just not me!)

Like the other ladies have said, not everyone has the same symptoms! Hope this helped and you get some answers!

Metformin, thats it, thats what they want to put me on for my weight(also use for insulin resistance)

I was on B/c from 15 till 18(when I stupidly stopped taking it, but then again we wouldn't have had Seamus if I haddn't made that mistake) to regulate my cycles too. I started getting Af's a few months before turning 13 (Nov '99 turned 13 in March '00), and from then till a couple months before 15 my af's were every 1-1.5months and would last at least 7 days and I'd go through an entire pack of 48 pads in those 7 days. Then when I was 15½ the pains started (then the lovely dildo cam's started ) and they found the cysts, then 2 or so months before turning 16 I stopped having af's all together and had to start b/c.
My OB had actually given me the b/c (patch before we knew I was allergic), and told me to start taking it when af started but it never did so mom had me just start taking it.
