DH has been sick (again!) the past couple of days, so we were going to do an easy dinner. We went to Fresh and Easy and got a frozen pizza and we put it in the oven. Lorena was sitting in her highchair eating some pasta and meatballs and DH asks if it looks smoky to me. I told him it didn't to me and then all of a sudden, the whole kitchen was filled. We look in the oven and there are flames coming up from the bottom drawer into the oven so I quickly grabbed Lorena and ran outside and DH got the fire extinguisher and put it out.
Apparently, our bottom drawer is a broiler, not a storage drawer and I had been keeping my pans down there. The pan that was right on top was my muffin pan and it had rubber hand grips on both sides, so when the fire was coming down on it, it caught. Thank God for the fire extinguisher, but dang those things make a MESS! Everything is fine now, no damage to anything except my pan and a whole lot of mess to clean up. We got most of it done last night, but everything that was out on the counters and all of my pans need to be washed.
I will never be putting anything but a broiler pan down there again!

My goodness how scary! I'm glad no real damage came out of it. Thank goodness you had a fire extinguisher, so many people don't ever get around to getting one. Especially if you are like me and you come from apartment living where they are provided for you to a house where they aren't. They may be messy, but I'm sure it saved your home. Your DH must be your hero!

Oh no, thats scary! I'm so glad everyone is ok!
Growing up the broiler was under the oven so thats what I'm used to. At my inlaws house though its not and thats where we store the pans. The difference is my parent's stove is gas and my inlaws is electric.
