Just when things were starting to get a little bit better we have a new problem! During let down Charlotte is losing her latch. She doesn't completely pull off and it isn't something she is doing on purpose. She just loses it and gets it back with the next suck without missing a beat. I probably wouldn't notice it much if I didn't hear it. It is also happening when I give her a bottle. Any ideas? We never had this problem before.

Is it like it slides out of her mouth and then she super-sucks it back in?

No, it doesn't go anywhere. It might slip a little, which is what I'm afraid of because I don't want her to slide back to a shallow latch when it happens. If you are just watching her nurse, though, you probably wouldn't notice it. She keeps her suckling rhythm throughout.

Hmm. Maybe we didn't experience that b/c I can't quite picture what you're talking about. But if she gets it back within the next suck -- maybe its not really a problem to worry about?

I agree with Shannon. If it slips and then is back to where the latch should be maybe it's not a big deal? It's really hard for me to remember if we had any thing like this happen. I do recall Oliver's latch coming off when he was really young and I would have to relatch him on.

I agree, if she is coming back on with the next suck without any latch issues, it's probably nothing to worry about. Maybe your let down is just strong and shocks her a little or something?

Lorena used to choke everytime I let down and so she would lose her latch and I'd have to relatch her with milk spraying everywhere.

Shannon I can't believe you noticed that! LOL
I ditto everyone else-if she goes back to good then great!
Maybe she is just trying to learn to swallow a bigger gulp....you know the difference on how you put your mouth/tongue when you take a shot instead of drinking
