About this lack of sleep thing. I am about to spend $70 on a fancy pregnancy pillow and i think that only a crazy person would do that! I just went to walmart a few days ago and spent a whole bunch of money on new pillow and body pillow etc none of which really helped much. i wake up inthe morning just whining becase my sleep quality is SO poor, and i wake up like 40 times a night just tossing and turning, and have to get up to pee & also wake up starving and miserable.
I am looking for any and all suggestions on how i can sleep soundly.
i'm going to clip some lavender and shove it in my pillowcase tonight or sniff it as i fall asleep or something.......

Aww hun
Unfortunately, it does not get any better. (sleeping)
What worked for me was having a big meal 2 hours before bed and then snacking right before bed. This part went away for me in the 2nd tri.
As for the peeing thing, i stopped drinking liquids after 6pm. It helped until the last 8 weeks.

TONS of protein before bed helps with the hungry part. I never had a bladder issue (troy did! LOL). And the tossing and turning---since your not bumping yet I'm guessing possibly nerves?! Try doing a few yoga or meditation before bed....this will be good for labor! the Pregnancy affirmations are AMAZING for this (hypnobabies thing--email me I may have a hook up?!). Also always sleep with a pen and paper next to you so you can wright down that thing you wanted to look up or buy or talk to someone about. Once you KNOW you will not forget it you can relax more.

Aw Sarah! You shouldn't be uncomfortable yet, what is keeping you up at night? I'm trying to remember back to the first trimester and it seems I remember tossing and turning, maybe it was the hormone changes? But it was short lived, towards the second trimester I was getting the best sleep ever. I didn't realize how sleepy my hormones made me until now... now that I'm not pregnant anymore it takes me forever to fall asleep again.
I don't think even the best pillow will help unfortunately. Didn't you stop working out? Maybe that's it. I know I sleep a lot better when I'm working out than when I'm not.
Hopefully it goes away soon.

I dunno, you weirdo lol. I slept about 16 hours a day in the beginning.
(I really am sorry though, that sux)
I hate to say it, but if you aren't sleeping now, you probably won't. I find myself getting less and less sleep. What works best is having DH sleep on the couch so i can thrash to my hearts content. Belly is just too heavy.
oh another tip. If you wake up hungry, get up and eat. You'll sleep better after. I've been known to have 4 am bowls of cereal.

I was EXHAUSTED in my first trimester... could hardly hold my eyes open... I remember going to bed super early every night. But I also know that I slept terribly for parts of my first trimester. I slept in the guest bedroom in my old bed b/c I LOVE that bed and LOATHED Ben and I's king size bed. It was uncomfortable and I was SO hot all the time. I tossed and turned and had really bad, vivid dreams. It didn't last long though, especially once I switched beds and kept the A/C cooler than normal.

Oh my goodness, I was literally about to come on here and make a post about pregnancy insomnia as well!
I am suffering from it too. I never got this with my first pregnancy... with that one I was soooo tired and could easily sleep 10 hours a night.
However for the last two months, I go to sleep at 8.30pm, fall alseep really easy but only sleep for about 4 hours. From around midnight onwards, I'm getting up to pee constantly, feel sick, hungry etc. It's driving me mad!!
Wish I could give you some advice, but I haven't worked out any thing to help. Got a lot of women in my DDC complaining too, so you're not alone. I'm 15.4 weeks and it hasn't gone away yet.

Ya you shouldn't be that miserable yet!! Wait till the leg cramps kick in! Thats when you'll be hating life! I get at least 5 a night. I was happy I only got 2 last night, haha. In a few weeks when your energy comes back you'll feel better. Can you sleep on your tummy? I was to scared to with Cambria. I think I did it will I was 8 weeks. With this one I did it till I was like 16! LoL. It was the only way to really be comfortable. It will get better before it gets worst again! Enjoy this time as much as you can!

I only had sleeping problems in the last trimester. I'm not sure what to suggest. Hope you get some rest soon.

Sorry I don't have much advice as nothing really works right now to make me comfy.. I was sleeping great until I got to the end of the 2nd trimester, then leg cramps and all the other pains you could imagine started... I sleep with 5 pillows right now and still it doesn't help... I hope it gets better for you!

I'm sorry hun! I can remember being completely exhausted, yet unable to sleep very well. I was all about the tossing and turning! Pregnancy yoga really helped to relax me, though. I used the Perfect Pregnancy Yoga dvd: Amazon.com: The Perfect Pregnancy Workout vol. 2: Yoga: Sarah Steben, Elisa Llamido: Movies & TV and I really liked it. Though this early on you could probably do regular yoga just fine. This dvd is pretty easy, but when you get a big ol belly you NEED easy! hahaha.

I had to have a fan on me CONSTANTLY! I slept like crap the first few weeks as well (few meaning till about 14 or 15 weeks) go to bed semi full, and always have water at your reach. I also played with my phone alot. I downloaded a solitaire app that would instantly put me to sleep, so that helped out ALOT!

Oh yes, I remember the sleep problems. I had them all the way through, different problems at different times. I remember vivid dreams, worries and tension, peeing 3-4 times a night, thirst, hunger, leg cramps, being too hot, not able to get comfortable, back pains, afraid to sleep on tummy... the list went on.
I had a Snoogie (sp?) pillow made for pregnancy and it was a LIFESAVER. $70 might be a little much, but those curved pillows really do support in all the right spots. It does the work of 5 or 6 pillows that will just come out of place sometime in the night. A regular, straight body pillow will not work at all. You need the one that goes under the head, breasts, belly and between the legs (or turn it around and use it to support your entire back... ahhh sweet relief!).
I also slept on the couch a lot of nights because I could lean back against the back of the couch and the cushions were more comfortable than my mattress.

I would totally crank up the A/C if I were you. I froze poor DH out while I was pregnant. Aren't you planning on using hypnobabies? If so maybe you can buy it a little early? The tracks always put me right to sleep, but it could have been because I was pregnant and sleepy to begin with.

I had major pregnancy insomnia with my boys, not so much with Lila. Of course that could also be because I was so exhausted from running after them all day I just dropped by bedtime.
I remember vividly with Lochy getting up for bowls of cereal at 4 in the morning all the time--throughout my pregnancy.

I am sorry you're having such a hard time. I don't really have any tips, I slept horrible throughout my whole pregnancy. The only thing that helped me was taking little naps during the day. I hope you are able to get a good nights sleep soon!
