Anyone a runner here? A serious mileage runner? I do my 3ish miles 3 times a week, but now I'm signed up for a half marathon and need to increase my mileage! I am hoping someone here has tips!

Look up Hal Higdon's plans. Don't increase your mileage by more than 10% or so a week and make sure you use RICE anytime you have an ache or pain! Have fun!

I want to say whoo hoo to!!! Good for you Jen - I am so excited for you. I am not a serious runner - I run 3.1 miles (5K's) a couple times a week also (I'm trying to get my time down so that hubby doesn't have to go so slow when we go as a family) - as a family we do all kinds around town etc. for charity. We got a double jogging stroller and I really love taking the kids out. anyway - I have no tips for upping mileage however my hubby is a serious runner - he does 5K's, 10K's, halfs, and hopes to do a full sometime soon. He does triathalons too and dualthons...he likes to bike but hates to swim. anyway - like you care about all that HE HE HE....

He just walked in from a run and said to up your mileage slow - like 10% a week. He said he likes to set time goals for himself to beat each time he goes out for how fast you want to do the race for and as you run you need to get to that pace etc. He bought a garmin running watch and that is a good investment he says to be able to pace yourself etc. I like when I run with him and he has the watch - it helps me push myself!!! Last but not least he said if you run when its hot you'll get very sweaty and get A.S.S zits....he's so cute isn't he!!!!

I hope that helps...keep us posted on your progress. Running has become like the "in thing" to do around here with alot of my mommy friends!

LMBO Keri! your hubby cracks me up! I can't avoid the hot and humid- it was 110 here today, when I woke up at 6 it was already after 80.

I'm going to up my running 10% each week, my mom is sending me some of her books this week. I've got 163 days until I run with Mickey to get ready!

a.s.s. zits! That's lovely.

That's awesome that you are running that much! I totally need to work in an exercise routine... ugh. I used to run, haven't done it in a while. I never ran super long distances though, just modest morning runs.

When is the marathon?

This may be helpful, as I used a program similar when I was trying to build up my endurance to one-hour (a year ago...not so much anymore!):

Running schedule to finish half marathon

I hope you keep us posted! I bet you will do great. I can imagine what a sense of well deserved accomplishment you must feel after completing something like that for the first time.

One of these days I want to ride in the MS 150. Two people I am close to have MS so I would love to ride for them! This year I was pregnant and last year and the year before that I was dealing with a back injury, so... fooey. Some day though! I have no excuse since it starts in my city and my company as well as DH's company both sponsor teams.
