Well, I suppose this is in order. Harper is 8 days old and doing well. She had her first pedi appointment yesterday. She was down from 7lbs 6 oz to 6 lbs 8 oz when we left the hospital on Thursday. Yesterday she was back up to 7lbs 1.5 oz so that's good. Breastfeeding is going so so we are still have a hard time getting her to latch properly because she is so sleepy. We have seriously tried everything to keep her awake and its nearly impossible. At this point I am feeding every couple of hours and have to wake her up to eat. I am really hesitant to contact a lactation consultant because the one I saw at the hospital was really awful and made me feel like such a bad mom. I've been using a nipple shield which helps her eat but may be adding to the latching problem. I have flat nipple apparently and giant boobs so its nearly impossible for her to even gain access to anything but the tip, even with the shield on. Not sure what we are going to do. If she starts losing weight again, I might just switch to formula. I'm not sure breastfeeding is going to work for us.

All she does is sleep, sometimes she'll cry for a dirty diaper. Mostly she's just pretty laid back. When she is alert she's gabbing and seems to really enjoy music of all kinds. The dogs are great with her, which was a major concern of mine, mostly they just sniff her and lick her feet. When she does cry Scout (the dog that was really really clingy when I was pregnant and obsessed with my belly) yelps and looks back and forth between Harper and me, like she's trying to tell me something is wrong with the baby. Its cute. She's already really attached.

She is such a doll! Beautiful girl

That sucks the LC at the hospital made you feel that way. The ones that tried to help me wasn't so nice either.

She's so cute! Kieran was the same way, super sleepy and that was part of the factor in her severe weight loss. But to give you some hope, I nursed Seamus for 12.5mo with a shield and Kieran is almost 16mo old and still nurses with a shield. I have flat/inverted nipples and am an H/I cup so I know what you mean with that. Try to call LLL they are better then hospital LC's are and should help you out

Awww she's absolutely beautiful!!! Just gorgeous.

My hospital LC was awful as well. She told me I was doing things right and I really wasn't at all. Totally got me and Charlotte off on the wrong foot.

I had to use a nipple shield because Lilyan got lazy with latching on when we introduced the bottle at 3 days. After 5 weeks of using it, I figured I would try without and bam! she latched on no problem. So just give it time. I am really sorry you had a bad experience with the LC. I LOVED the LCs at our hospital....when I called a week afterwards to get more tips, the woman even remembered who I was!
I am glad you all are doing well and that's too cute with the dog!

First - she is absolutely precious. So adorable!!!!!

Second - Call LLL. My LC's in the hospital were awful as well - they basically told me I sounded like I knew what I was talking about and I will be fine. Ha.

La Leche League of San Diego, California

LLL is WONDERFUL and it may help to just talk to someone. Hugs to you...it's so hard in the beginning.

It sounds like everyone is adjusting and doing wonderfully! Congrats mama!
