Maybe someone on here has experience with this...
Matthew has been having some diarrhea for a couple weeks. He has always been a prolific pooper, 2-3 times a day is normal for him and they can be more formed but sometimes mushier like peanut butter or even a little looser.
So lately he will have some normal poops but then he's been having some that are looser than normal and they have undigested food and mucus in them. When he went to the doctor a little over a week ago, she tested his poop for blood and said it was negative. She said maybe it was just a virus and to give it more time (this was before I saw the mucus). Well, he is still having issues. I thought maybe it's just cause he eats a lot of fruit so I cut back on that, but still he is having these little bouts of diarrhea. I changed his diaper like 7 times today. Each time it isn't a lot volume wise but he just keeps pushing it out a tiny bit at a time. He is also getting some diaper rash, I guess from all the constant pooping.
I'm worried that maybe he is having a problem with dairy, although I don't know why it is happening now and not when I first started him on it. My SIL said the same thing happened with her daughter, she started having diarrhea, then got bad diaper rash and she had to take her off all dairy.
I'm bummed and worried he won't get enough fat and protein in his diet if I have to cut out dairy, as milk is in everything and he doesn't really like meat much.
The doctor also said this could be from teething and he is drooling, but he always drools, so I dunno.
Any thoughts? It doesn't help that I don't really know what "normal" is, but now that mucus is showing up I figure that can't be good.

Hmmm I'm not to sure how to help but Dustin's poop has always been even more liquidy then peanut butter. No mucous though. The undigested food is getting better now that he's got molars and stuff. Before it was SO gross haha, full pieces of corn, peas, cherry skins etc. PUKE PUKE haha.

Yeah, the undigested food part doesn't bother me too much since I know that's kinda normal...ugh...peas and blueberry skins (blueberry poo is the WORST), grape skins, corn, oh yuck!
It's just the mucus and the fact that he keeps going so many times throughout the day that worries me. It's like he won't get it all out in one go. I literally changed his diaper 3 times in a row today. He'd poo a tiny bit, I'd change it, then he'd poo some more...

I never had this problem with Oliver. Hmmm.. Oliver eats like a pint of blueberries each week and I don't think it makes his poop gross. However, I've seen lentil skins before.. and corn. haha..
I don't know anything about this but my guess it something is bothering him for it to be mucus poop. If he has been eating dairy for some time and didn't have the poop problem before I wouldn't think it's the dairy. Just my guess.

this is a lotta poop talk!!! LOL
apparently unpasteurized cows milk is way easier to digest than pasteurized, but its really hard to get unless you know a guy who knows a guy who knows a farmer....just thought i would mention it in case you do know someone who could hook you up! or maybe try goat milk? usually lactose intolerance isnt the sort of thing where he'd have to avoid ALL dairy products, like i'm lactose intol but i can eat bits here and there, but i know my limits. you just learn it over time.

Mucous makes me think irritation and the fact he only goes a little at a time and when he does he has a rash makes me think that its acidic and it burn/hurts. It could be an allergy/intolerance issue...anything new this last couple weeks? If it was a virus I would think it would have ran its course by now. The Mucous would have me calling the Dr. Any fever? Is he dehydrated at all? {{hugs}}

I cut out milk for a few days and just have cheese and yogurt but that didn't stop the problem, and I'm using lactose free milk in case it was that. Apparently you can have not only lactose intolerance but milk protein intolerance.
Resi, Matthew would eat about a half a pint of blueberries in one sitting if we would let him. We don't obviously, but anyway...he loves fruit! Especially blueberries.
Angela, he dosen't have a fever and seems perfectly fine otherwise. I'm going to call the Dr if this continues, I haven't wanted to because I know I'll end up talking to a nurse that doesn't know the history and they tend to try and solve the problems rather than passing it onto the pedi. Or they just say schedule an office visit.
I don't think he has had any new foods over the last couple weeks. He's been eating bits of everything for some time now.

I figured it was from teething poor little guy has 4 teeth messing with him right now. But now that I know Matthew has it maybe it is a virus! I hope its nothing to do with dairy!!!! I will take Landen to the doctor if it doesn't let up soon!

BRAT diet should help.Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast (some also use the BRATTY diet- BRAT plus tea and yogurt). I would be giving him extra probiotics with this!

I was thinking too of an allergic reaction to something her's eating. If Amara eats something that she reacts to, I've seen it happen with rice (regular rice), too many cranberries and a few other foods, her stool is different and she has a slight rash on her bottom.
It doesn't seem like a case of dairy intolerance because then all the stools would have been affected. But Amara reacts to cow's milk (we're thinking a cow's milk proteing allergy) with an eczema flare-up but her stools are fine. She's been on goat's milk since I realised the cow's milk was causing the reaction. She had cow's milk for 2 weeks after she turned 1. We get the fresh, unpasteurised milk and think I have to boil it, etc and she has that. She has an allergy test on Aug. 24.

Here's a newspaper article about 'going raw'. we've been consuming raw dairy (milk, cream, cheese, yogurt) for a while now & honestly it tastes identical to the pasteurized/homogenized stuff to me. i figure if they milk the cows in a safe and sanitary way then it is safe. i think that they need to pasteurize megafarmed cows milk because they are not milking them in a safe humane way (ie they get sores & infections from over milking that contaminates the milk).
this article seems decent, but theres a lot more you coud look up about it:
More dairies going raw, citing benefits of unpasteurized milk - The Boston Globe
Excerpt: "The study, sponsored by the European Union and published in 2007, found that children who drank raw milk had a lower incidence of asthma and allergies."

His oatmeal has probiotics plus the yogurt has it so I thought we were good on that...hm... I read too much probiotics is bad.
He won't eat rice and bread (toast) he'll eat *some* so I haven't really done BRAT or BRATTY because he is still HUNGRY. I can't even imagine how much applesauce and bananas he'd go through on that but I guess I could try loading him up on mostly those.
The raw thing is interesting but I wouldn't have the hook up on that.

I'm not sure what the max of probiotics is. Right now london get 1 adult pill (if needing a boost), but daily his oatmeal and yogurt and vit d comes with probiotics. I never asked what the max was.... I should get london in for his year appointment next week-I'm going to ask then! Thanks for thinking of a question for me! LOL I always try to have a mini list when I go in

Lorena had this issue when she was teething. I am not sure how long it lasted, but it went away as soon as her teeth started breaking through the gums.
I hope it's nothing serious and goes away on it's own. KUP!

Another option is organic non-homogenized milk rather than raw. I just started buying it. It's so much better!

Resi, what brands do you find organic non homogenized? I do buy organic milk, either Horizon or HEB (store brand) organic. Well, until I tried lactose free, which doesn't come in organic.
Angela, glad I could help with a question. I just remembered I had another question for you. What brand/dosage of vitamin D do you use for you and for London? His pedi wants him to get vitamin D since I told her I had cut back on cow's milk for him. She suggested poly vi sol but I'm not sure about that one.
Today we're doing the BRATTY diet minus the rice and tea. And adding cheerios and then breastmilk of course. So far one normal poop, but they tend to be more normal in the morning so we'll see.

so she had the mucus in there too? He's never had this (at least not to this extent) with teething, but the next to come are the molars so maybe it's worse. It take him FOREVER to cut teeth too so I'm dreading his molars and eye teeth that have to come in.
