So this past weekend we decided to ditch the bottles. We were going to stop them sooner, but since we went on our trip for a month, I felt it wasn't right to take away his comfort items. He's been having 3 bottles of milk a day, and then a sippy with water. We put milk in the sippy and offer it at the same times as the bottle was (mostly when he wakes in the AM and after nap). But he's hardly drinking it! He'll take a few sips and then start chewing on the end, making a huge mess. It's like he's refusing it because he wants the bottles back? Anyone else go thru this? He's hardly drinking a few oz. of it a day!

He's still drinking water, and eating his dairy foods. But it worries a mama, KWIM?

J.J won't take his milk out of a sippy cup either. I just took at as a sign that he is not ready to give up his bottle yet. If i put milk in a sippy and he takes a sip, he spits it all over the place and then throws the cup on the floor. He will take anything else in a sippy though. Just not formula. (He'll take regular milk in it just fine at a meal!)

Amara did something similar when I first introduced the sippy cup. For me though, I chose to put her back on the bottle and try again at a later date. The next time I tried she took the cup.

I'm not sure if you're willing to go that route but good luck with your choice.

Can you try different sippies for milk? A straw? Or maybe even just a cup? Perhaps waiting a bit longer until he's ready?

Hope you figure something out

He drinks wonderfully with his straw sippy when there is water in it. We tried milk in that, but it was even worse.

You got gotta stay strong and don't give bottles...he will realize sooner than later that this is his only option...like you said he's getting the nutrients and fluids he needs from food and water. He will come around....Nora threw the sippies at me at first....but fI was determined not to have her on a bottle still after 12 months so I just went cold turkey and didn't give in (same thing at daycare they don't give bottles after 12 months) so she accepted it and now its like no big deal!!! Good luck!!!

I agree I take bottles away by 12 months cold turkey and refuse to look back. I tell them "Ohh, I think the bottles are gone. Where could they have gone? *goes looking through the house with baby* Well, I guess that means it's big girl sippy cup time all the time, YAY!". I always introduced the sippy cup around 6-8 months of age and it always started out messy. Sometimes it's all about finding the right lid for them. I know Taylor always did great with the straw kind (she didn't want to tilt her head back for some reason LoL) but Rylie would just chew on it so I got her the hard lid kind and it was much easier for her. Nap time and night time there's a little crying but it stops after the first 2-3 days and they get used to it and forget all about it. Good luck!!
