It sucks BAD! It hurts and it takes a really, really long time!
also you don't get much money from it and your only allowed to do it twice a month. At least that is how it was 4 years ago.

DH had some cousins who did it every month and they never complained about it. I think you have to have a certain blood type though.

From what i remember when my friend did it, he was allowed to donate every 56 days, and only got 30 dollars for his time and said it took 2-2.5 hours depending on who did it.

I thought I heard someone say once it was around $50 and you can do it like once a month I think. Dont quote me on that. It does take awhile though.

Ok here is how it is here (CSL plasma in Spokane) you can donate 2 times a week and they pay $35 the first time and like $25 or 35 the second. And we looked it up when we were having issues a couple months ago(well 10 months) about the breastfeeding and donating, #1 you can't have had any surgery/given birth(even vaginal) with in 6months of when you want to donate. Breastfeeding is "ok" but they don't like it, you have to drink a ton more if you donate while breastfeeding.
And for me it wasn't painful but my body can't handle it, my veins collapse and they have to unhook me and start pumping me full of juice and food cause I get close to fainting, but dh did it alot when we needed extra money.
Oh ya and it takes around 1.5-2hrs a time to get enough plasma and filter your blood out and back in then pump the saline though at the end(which is super cold and the most "painful"/irritating part)

Ditto to Justine... before grad school, ExDH was a phlebotomist at a plasma donation center. They don't pay you for the plasma, just for your "time." That is how they get around laws that say you can't sell body parts/fluids. Your "time" is worth approx. $25 to $35 each time you donate but the second time per week is a lesser amount than the first. You can plan to be there around 2 to 2.5 hours. The needle is quite a large gauge because it has to take out all the blood and then pump your red cells and some saline back in. They'll test your blood for diseases and ask you several very personal questions about your sexual and drug related behaviors.
For a less immediate but bigger payoff, have you ever looked into donating your eggs?

I have, not sure how I still feel about another little me running around....KWIM? But at the same time I would be helping someone achieve their goal of having a LO.
And Im not BFing, so that wouldnt be an issue, but yes, shes only 2 months old so I would have to wait.
I will look into the egg donor too. thanks ladies!

Along the lines of egg donation. What about dh donating sperm? I know a place here offers something like $300-600 a month for donations (depending on volume and quality)

Dh wont do it either. But I know donating eggs is alot more strict then sperm. Most the time you cannot be over weight or if you are only with in like 20lbs. I looked into it at one point and because I'm more then 50lbs over weight they wouldn't take me and because I had no college degree they said no also. (and cause I've had gd with my pregnancy's and such....its alot more "picky" with eggs then sperm)

exact reasons I said no to egg donation after I read up on it earlier today. no college degree is stupid because Ive been busy being a MOTHER - I think I over qualify just by that

I did it it college for a couple months. I went twice a week. It wasn't worth it. It takes about 45 min just to donate....add on the waiting time before you get called back and you could be there a couple hrs easily.
I ended up getting a kidney stone from it b/c I didn't stay hydrated enough. Also, plasma donating centers tend to be in pretty shady parts of town. I think there are much better and safer means to make money.
