So, Harper has had some mucousy poops the last few days and then yesterday she was really hard to wake up to eat. Then she would but when she would eat it would all come back up almost immediately before it even had time to curdle. We thought maybe she just ate a lot yesterday but then this morning after not eating for... 6 hours and then obviously being really hungry, just did the same thing and threw it all up. Anyone know what this might be about or experience something similar? We called her pediatricians office and they said sometimes it just happens but were also concerned about her weight gain since she lost so much weight at the beginning.

I don't know if this link will work exactly...so you might have to scroll through to the picture/explanation of mucousy-poop in newborns.

I haven't been through this so I can't really offer any thoughts on it. I hope the link from Shannon helps.

I dont know about the vomiting but Cambria's poops were always so random. She had Mucusy poops once in a while but it went away. I hope you can figure out whats going on soon! KUP on what the Peid says.

I agree the poops can be random. I might be more concerned with the spitting up. However I want to point out that you don't know if it is *all* coming back up. It's possible that what looks like a lot to you is really only 1/2 of what she actually ate, KWIM? So I am betting that she is getting at least some nutrition. Now onto what that could be.... any number of things. She could have an allergy or GERD or a stomach flu bug. She could have had an upset stomach due to being moved right after eating. She could have been worked up emotionally and threw up as part of crying. So all I can suggest is to call the pediatrician if it keeps on happening. Dominic did not spit up much but it does happen once in a while and it's not always clear why.

As long as harper is having at least 6 wet diapers a day and you don't see blood or is in pain I think just keep an eye on it. London got mucusy poop when I ate something that didn't agree with his gut.

I'd keep an eye on it for another day or so and see if the increased spit up becomes worse. Has she always been a spit up baby? could be GERD, could be something you've eaten that she doesn't like....

I wouldn't worry as long as she is getting at least 6 wet diapers a day. Baby's are spit up machines!!! Landen always had some pretty nasty(er) looking poop when I ate pizza, or fried foods. I hope that is all that it is!

It sounds like it could be a dairy allergy. It normally takes 3-4 weeks for a baby to react to dairy in your diet. Ethan used to spit up and have green frothy mucousy poops that eventually got bloody as well.
That said, some babies are just spitters, while others never spit up. And it could just be an off-week for poopies. Viruses often affect poop as well. So, if she doesn't seem fussy & doesn't have diarrhea, then I'd just watch the diapers like Angela said, and wait it out for another week to see if her poop returns to normal on it's own.
Good luck!

She is straining but I just assumed she was extra gassy. Yesterday was the same. She didn't poop all day and then sort of had a few large explosive poops. She hasn't pooped in like 13 hours now which is really weird for her. She's just eating in little tiny 5 minute increments but not spitting up as much. Usually she nurses every couple of hours for about 30 minutes. Why is being a mother so nerve wracking?

Yeah no one has that answer! LOL
For gassy belly-- gripe water-GODSEND! (mylicon CAN have a constipation effect), Also some baby yoga, and finally a little ECing (not kidding!LOL) once I held london over the potty a couple times a day--he farted up a storm and any gas issues were fixed by giving him the opportunity and position to let it rip!

We have a pedi appointment for 5pm tomorrow and I'm hoping they have some answers for us. She seems pretty miserable. I feel like such a bad mom. 4 weeks old and I'm already making her miserable.
