I have no idea! I'm not ready to start calling places since I probably won't start Reid until he is around 3, but I am curious. No one lists their rates on their sites! I know it's going to vary a lot based on location (I'm in SoCal so it will probably be on the high end!) but a range would be nice.

Here preschool is from 3-5yrs old and the average cost from places I looked and talked to was $500 or so a month, some more some less depending on what they offered and how long the day was. (The reason we are trying for Headstart so bad, no way we can afford that lol)

Wow 500 geesh! Here the BEST private one is 165/month for 5 days 9-12. An add'l $5 per day if you want them to stay til 2pm. Daycare ont he other hand is at the very least $150/week for a total of $600 per month. The daycares call themselves pre-k's but they are NOT! That is for the 5yr old class. Private kindergarten for a half day kindergarten at age 5 is 268/month and full day is around $350 plus uniforms. B did special needs pre-k that was covered by the state education laws....not income based. We don't qualify for headstart or I would have checked into that I think. But here the income guidelines are insanely low.....so low I wonder how those people are surviving!

Headstart is. I'm not sure how military works but check into that, its government funded/state funded.
But ya its not cheep here, same with day care. To have both kids in day care it would be at the minimum $600 a month(and thats for the crappy places) but normally around $900, so similar if one was in preschool and one in daycare. I believe Dh's friend said her daughter's preschool was $400 a month but her grandparents were paying it for her.

Yeah it's kinda expensive around here too. That's why I'm doing homeschooling with her and if we feel public school would be better for her come Kindergarten, like she wasn't handling me as her teacher or learning well from me, than she'd go

I had a really hard time finding a preschool around here. Most are daycares that call themselves preschool, but they are most definitely not. Daycare is daycare in my book.
We have Liam starting in a few weeks. It's Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 12:30-3 and its $165 a month. We had to go to PA to find something reasonable. The only ones I could find in NJ near us were private schools and for the same days/times it was at least $500 a month plus a crazy interview process. And I absolutely did not want to send him to the headstart at the crappy public school here.

Here it just depends on how many days. It's between $300-500 maybe. I was just looking last week at costs.

$3000-$12000 for a year (pt-ft)... and there are waiting lists! I know girls with same age kid as london ALREADY trying to get into preschools... I'm told chicago is one of the "worst" as far as price/etc but we do have some of the best public schools.(which if they are so great it shouldn't matter what pre-school right?! LOL)
i'm not paying more for london's preschool than I did my COLLEGE for him to finger paint and count....we will be homeschooling for that! LOL maybe kindergarten also. (depends if we are on or off the road also).

Our local YMCA offers preschool and you can choose 2, 3, or 5 day programs... the day is only 2.5 hours long... i have my ds enrolled for 3 day, so he will have swim lessons 1 day a week, gym class 1 day a week, and the 3rd day they just do classroom stuff the whole time... the reg. rate is $125 for that, but with my Y membership I only pay $100 a month.
It's an amazing program, ds went last year twice a week, with the swim lessons every week, several field trips throughout the year, and they do different family things, like for thanksgiving each child brought in something like rolls, or pie, or a box of instant potatoes, and the school bought turkey and put on a HUGE meal for all the students and their families (parents siblings AND grandparents!), at christmas time they had a night where you could come in and make gingerbread houses with everyone from the school... we love it... and now seeing the costs for other areas, I'll stop whining that it's expensive to send my son to preschool for 7.5 hours a week

Definitely look into NACCRRA - it's a program that partially covers the cost of child care/preschool for active duty military families.

If kids cant get into headstart, Ill be homeschooling them. Remember with headstart, at least around here, its based off income. if you make over what they state, you have to pay for it.

Drake starts this fall, two days a week from 9:30- 1pm. It's at our church, but there is an official curriculum, not just MMO. It's $215 a month.

Here we don't have public preschool unless your child has special needs. Around here, it costs around $300-$600 a month for 2-5 half-days per week.
However, if you can't afford a full-fledged licensed preschool, a lot of churches have "moms day out" a couple times a week and will teach preschool material in the older classes. Normally, this will run less than $200 a month for 3 half-days per week. I did this with Zach & Ethan until I went back to work. I think for Zach to go 3 days/wk and Ethan to go 2 days/wk it was around $320/mo. total.

I would call your local collage and speak to the teacher in charge of Child development. They can refer you to good child care centers in your area and find what works for you income level..
I'm vary fortunate that my kids get to go to go a Learning Center for free.. One of the perks of being related to the owner.. lol But I could not afford her if I had to pay. For full time it's $650 a month per child..
