So I've taken this test before with the boys and nothing came of it but this time I tested positive. I did a search online and wish I hadn't. Has any one here had it?? I know I just get antibiotics in my IV but I'm so worried that baby will come to quickly, before they start working. Anyone with previous experience?

lol Amy, everyone is pulling the "she" comments I can't wait to find out!
Ya, I think if you don't hear then you don't have it I guess. No news is good news. She really didn't give the impression that it was anything to worry about just stressed that I had to get to the hospital as soon as my water breaks.

I had a positive test with Harrison and I got the IV meds along with my induction meds etc.....noticed nothing......no big deal.
With Nora I was tested on Wed....and went into labor the next day on Thurs....so they started me on the meds Thurs. night with my other IV fluids just in case I had been positive (never did get the results back !) Noticed nothing with Nora either....it was like a mute point. I wouldn't worry about it. It's no big deal - at least it wasn't for me!
I hope "she" comes super quick though - we're excited to meet baby boo!

They want you to get the meds cause they baby "could" be infected on the way out! I had to wait to have my water broken with Nora until they could get the multiple doses of it into me....with Harrison that wasn't the way it went....so I'm not sure if different hospitals did it different ways or what but it really didn't make a difference either time!

GBS is a naturally occurring bacteria in the vaginal and rectal tract of every woman. The test doesn't indicate if you have an infection, just whether or not the bacteria is colonized. Every woman has it, you had it with the boys it's just that it wasn't colonized at the time you were tested. That being said, the risk of infection to the baby if you receive NO antibiotics during your labor is 0.5%, which is pretty darn low.

Although I didn't question it or anything...I was in the risk group...both my kids were born just shy of or right at 37 weeks.

I've been tested with both pregnancies, will be tested with this one, and was "positive" with Violet and received antibiotics. I'm not advocating not getting the meds (though I know the article is suggesting that), but just thought the article did a good job of showing just how the low the risk is if you don't get the meds which is specifically what Steph was worried about.

I tested positive (still am...only thing that came back on the yearly they did trying to figure out my "af" issues) with both, and the antibiotic's didn't cause any issues with them(well Kieran I was automatically given antibiotic's since it was a c-section)
But I think if baby comes fast they may just try to do the IV but not worry if it doesn't happen.

I tested positive with Lochy and negative with Liam and Lila. I was given the antibiotics when I first arrived at the birth center--I'm allergic to penicillan so I got something else. They like you to have 2 doses in before the baby comes (every 4 hours I believe) but Lochy didn't want to wait that long so I only got the one dose in. It was the rules of the birth center that I had to stay the full 12 hours after giving birth because I was positive just to monitor him as long as possible. He was absolutely fine!

If you test posititve it doesn't even mean you will be positive during labor. Same goes the other way also! LOL It comes and goes in all women. You can take some herbs to be negative, you can hibba cleanse and become negative, etc. Even with a positive the chances of baby having an issue are smaller than getting in a car accident while in labor! LOL VERY SMALL!
I opted out of the test just to avoid the headache! LOL

Okay good to know! We are usually pretty anxious to get back home after baby comes so I'll make sure to let James know as well that we might have to stay for monitoring!

i had to go back and check my pregnancy journal on another site but i thought i was correct, I did test + for GBS and i just had 2 doses of the antibiotic before he was born, no issues with me or riley after he was delivered. I think the antibiotics were in like 50cc tubes that they just attach to your IV and they hooked 2 of them in. I wasn't that concerned about when i got the results back and my OB wasn't either, just said i had to make sure to get the antibiotics just in case.

I tested + and my labor was too quick for me to recieve one full dose of antibiotics. Well, not my full labor, but from the time I got to the hospital to the time she was out was only about 4 1/2 hours and I didn't even get an IV for close to an hour after getting there.
The only issue we had was that they made us stay the full 48 hours after birth for monitoring rather than letting us go home at 24 hours like they do most normal vaginal deliveries. I would rather have gone home earlier, but it wasn't a big deal.

That's my main concern.. not getting antibiotics in time or enough of them. I guess we'll just have to see what happens!
