My MIL has told me like 4 times this morning that she got my baby 'something to wear home from the hospital' or a 'going home hat' etc. She KNOWS i'm planning a home birth!!!!!!!!! gawd this irritates me.

also my step MIL asked me the other day at dinner "Why are you using a midwife?" and i really thought she was asking why and so i start rattling off all the reasons why i love going to see them, but then i realize she is just GLOWERING at me. she didnt really want to know why i was using a midwife...she just wanted to know why on earth i didnt have enough sense to use an OB like normal people. GAh - i need a vacation SO BADLY!!!

You will most likely get a lot of opinions on all sorts of pregnancy, l&D, and child rearing topics. Esp. from women that are mothers.

I get my mom telling me Oliver needs to be in his own bed and to wean him but I just tell her it's not happening any time soon unless Oliver decides he is ready.

I try not to let it get to me because it's just their opinion and in the end I get to decide what is best.

MIL's are too much! Try to just brush it off. As others have said, you will hear tons of unwanted opinions. People think seeing or being around a pregnant woman is like an open invitation to give annoying, unwanted opinions. All that matters is that you know what you are doing is right for you and your family, and nobody else has to agree with what you do or like it.

oh i know i really dont care what they think cuz the choices i'm making/will make are what makes me happy. but i just found it revealing that my MIL got me a 'going home from the hospital' gift when she knows what i'm planning. i'll have to casually mention that only 30% of those planning home births in my area end up going to the hospital, so i have a 70% chance of staying here the whole time......and stepMIL....ugh she just straight up does not approve. and i guess it wouldnt bother me if i WAS actually doing something wrong but i mean seriously, midwives are covered by our provincial health care!! its not like i'm seeing some backwoods herbalist or something, it's all regulated by the government and is a legitimate choice!

Sometimes I wish that persons mouths came with a zipper so that when they start to talk crap, you can zip it for them.

I find that attitude about midwifes really really weird... In NZ, it's totally normal to see a midwife for pregnancy/labour. You only go to an OB if you are high risk... And 25% of women in my city have home births!! They are so 'normal' over here! Just ignore all their advise. That's what I'm doing with my family!

Ugh, what a biznatch. Even if you weren't having a home birth I'd imagine YOU would want to pick out that going home outfit! I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
