What breast pumps do you BTDT Mums use? Manual or Electric? Any recommendations?

i had the engalls-ameda elite hospital grade pump. i love, Love, LOVED it! It's an electric but they do have an adapter available to use in a car, i believe you can probably even get a generic adapter from radio shack. I've also heard very good things about the ameda purely yours which is the smaller more portable version of the elite. the purely yours is a double pump as well as the elite. I took my elite with me to work in a backpack to pump and it worked out just fine, it takes up more room than the purely yours but it wasn't that big of an issue to me. I tried using an older medela pump in style and it was worthless compared to my ameda, maybe the new ones are better, i'm not sure.
For hand pumps/manual pumps i loved the medela harmony it worked awesome and was as close to a one hand pump as i could find as long as you could rest the collection bottle against something for support otherwise you have to hold it. The ameda hand pump i felt was obnoxious and hard to work. I had cramps in my hand after using it for just a few moments, not very egronomical i guess you would say. I also tried an even-flo hand pump and it worked okay the first couple times but after that it was just a PITA and didn't work like it did the first couple times. I only paid $15 for it so it wasn't that big of a deal, it got the job accomplished after a period of time and i've kept it purely as a back up method. The only reason i bought the even-flo one was after a couple of very lucky but naughty dogs got the bag that i was storing my medela in after i had left it on the kitchen table in a rush to get to the grocery store one night. They are quite lucky my hubby was there to run interference or i might have wrung their necks

here is the link for my pump the elite:
Ameda - Products: Hospital Grade Breast Pumps

here is a link for the purely yours:
Ameda - Products: Personal Electric Breast Pumps

here is the link for their hand pump:
Ameda - Products: Manual Breast Pumps

also Babies R Us is now carrying the ameda collection bottles and parts, they may even carry the purely yours pump, i just remember being excited to find parts in store i didn't check out the pump selection. I bought my Elite off ebay, there are always tons on there for similar prices as the manufacturers website. I paid i believe $300 for my Elite compared to the $700-$900 retail. It was used but with it being a hospital grade pump i just made sure it was cleaned really well before i used it.

I used a double electric Medela Lactina and it worked well. I rarely pump though. I only use pumped milk for baby cereal once we introduce that

i believe my SIL used the medela freestyle (i think that was what it was called) it was the handsfree one and she really used the handsfree aspect. she was EP'ing though.....but it was nice she could still eat or whatever while she was pumping, she just draped a recieving blanket over the front of her and went about her business as usual! i'll probably inherit that pump. she dropped it in water and abused it in lots of other ways and it is still alive, so i think medela is pretty good!

I use the electric Avent Isis IQ Duo and I have really liked it. The only drawback is it's not hands-free. I would definitely recommend you spring for an electric double pump if you're going to be doing ANY kind of serious pumping (i.e. working part or full time).

I used the Ameda Purely Yours Double Electric one. It worked great and I loved that the tubes never got in contact with the milk. Was very easy to clean.
