He had his 4 month appt. yesterday. He weighs 12 lbs 12 oz (10%) and is 26 1/2 inches long (92%). The doctor told me i needed to supplement to help him gain some more weight, but honestly i don't feel like it's necessary. I always go with my gut instinct and i feel like he's completely healthy. I do plan to have DH start giving him a bottle (of breastmilk) more frequently though. I think that might help him get more calories since he always gets distracted while BFing and he can look around at other things w/a bottle. She recommended waiting until 6 months to start solids which i was glad since i already planned on waiting. She said babies need more than milk at that age which i do not agree with. I will wait until i feel he is ready to eat, whether that be 6 mos or 9 mos. The shots were harder on Cam because it was a different nurse and she didn't do a very good job. She took forever and did one shot at a time making it a lot worse.. the nurse last time did both legs at once. I felt so bad for the little guy and am hoping there's a way to request the other nurse for next time. Over all i'm happy that he is healthy and all is looking good

aww i'm so glad he's doing well! i'm glad you're going with your gut on the supplementing thing too. if he is within those percentages he is AOK! (from what ive read...all those % charts are based on formula fed babies which grow at a different rate than BF babies)

They get 2 shots at the 4 month appt!?!? Oh no! Definitly go with your instinct! I think considering how long he is, I would expect him to be on the thinner side anyway. Yea, I don't agree with what she said either about needing more than milk at that age (although we are going to start giving solids as soon as we can). Keep doing what you're doing because he is a handsome little man!!

He is adorable Krista and glad to hear he is doing well. Drake is also low in the percentile for weight (3%) but tall (50%) I have started supplementing as I feel he is just too small for his age. He just hit 10lbs on his 3 month birthday after starting at birth at 8lbs 8ozs. We are running some tests so hopefully we can figure out why he isnt gaining. But good for you on sticking to your instincts. Camden is beautiful

What a wonderful momma you are! Def go with your instinct. If he's got the poops and pees down he doesn't need any supplementing. I agree that those measurements are based on forumla fed babies and although there is nothing wrong with that, the growth can be different between them and breast fed babies. You sound like an awesome strong momma and know what your doing!
Sorry to hear about the shots!

Instead of supplementing with formula, I'd maybe try pumping more and giving more BM bottles, as you said. I know Dominic for one never turns down a feeding but sometimes he is distracted, falls asleep or whatever and I forget to make that up with an extra feeding later. I've noticed that when we started solids he actually lost some ground percentile-wise, I think due to the fact that the baby foods are like straight fruits or veggies and they only have about 30-50 calories in a whole jar. So if you're replacing a BM feeding with a jar of peas, he's getting less calories and less fat. Also it coincided with him beginning to crawl and when they're so active they lose weight. Just something to keep in mind about what is on the horizon for Camden. You don't want to go into month 6 or 7 at a real deficit weight-wise because if he loses further it could be too much. As of now, 10th percentile isn't an emergency situation, I'd just offer him more milk and see what he does with it. Good for you for sticking to BF even though you're getting that typical pressure to supplement.

That makes sense. Thanks for the heads up on baby food!

What is wrong with his weight? Oliver was the same at 4 months. I'm glad you are going with your mommy instincts. Formula fed babies tend to weigh more than breast fed babies. He sounds like he doing just fine to me!

I wouldn't worry about the weight. I just looked up Cambria's old Stat's and she was only 11lb's 3 Oz's at 4 Months. And she Definitely wasn't as long as Camden! She was short and Chubby but didn't weigh much Camden's longer so maybe thats why it seems he's not evening out with the weight. Cambria really didn't start gaining more till I gave her a Bottle of Breast Milk before bed. Guess that extra was all she needed, maybe that all Camden needs too....

i'm surprised he said to supplement? It sounds like his wt is fine!
London was 95% at 6 months... since his 6 months he has put on about 2-3 lbs (now at the 20%) LOL. he started minimum solids at 7 months and I bet is just NOW (13 months) getting more solids than BM. But the activity level is INSANE! They really slow down on growth about 9 months due to activity, so ditto that heads up.
